WhatsApp users left feeling seriously uncomfortable after subtle change is quietly introduced to messages

People aren't a fan of WhatsApp's latest update which was quietly introduced last week

WhatsApp is one of those apps that never needs a revamp - we know how it looks, feels, works and have been using it for so long that we could operate it with our eyes shut.

So when the tech boffins behind it introduce a subtle change, you can bet your bottom dollar that users are going to pick up on it.

For starters, updating these certain features really scared a lot of people to death when they spotted it while simply replying to their group chats, so people are baying for blood now.

Others said they were left thinking their phones had suffered some strange punctuation malfunction after clocking onto WhatsApp's new appearance.

If you aren't glued to the little green app, you might have missed the small tweak which has been made to the messaging platform which a whopping two billion people use across the globe.

But for those whose phone is always pinging, you will probably already be well aware that the status of the person you're texting looks a little bit different.

The app introduced the minor tweak on both iOS and Android last week.

As I'm sure you are aware, in a WhatsApp chat, we can see some information about the recipient of our messages - which may indicate that they are 'online' or 'typing...' a reply out to you.

They're pretty handy and stop us impatiently double texting - but the communication giant has decided to make a small adjustment to the way these words are displayed.

Next time you're on WhatsApp, you might notice that there are now imposing capital letters in front of these words.

To spell it out for you, the status now appears like 'Online' and 'Typing' instead, rather than the usual lower case look.

WhatsApp users took to social media to make it clear they are not a fan of the small change, even though to some people it sounds like the least of their worries.

One said: "Why has WhatsApp capitalised the first letters on 'online' and 'typing'. Pls, it's making me icky."

Another fumed: "The introduction of the capital T for ‘typing’ on WhatsApp has bothered me more than it should."

A third added: "Anyone else get irrationally annoyed by WhatsApp’s latest iOS update where, if someone is online, it’s now with a capital ‘O’ (Online), or when someone is typing, it’s a capital ‘T’ (Typing).

"Only a capital letter different, but I hate it so much."

A fourth commented: "I thought it was just me spotting it and getting annoyed by it!! It bugs the heck out of me!"

While a fifth chimed in: "Just noticed WhatsApp has started to capitalise things like Typing and Online. I hate it."
