First trailer for Netflix Dahmer series starring Evan Peters has dropped

Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story stars Evan Peters and has American Horror Story creator Ryan Murphy at the helm

Netflix has dropped its first trailer for Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, a new true crime drama about serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer. Take a look below:

The 10-part series has American Horror Story creator Ryan Murphy at the helm, and stars Evan Peters as the titular murderer who murdered and dismembered at least 17 men and boys between 1978 and 1991. Many of his crimes involving necrophilia, cannibalism and the preservation of body parts – habits that gave him the nickname of the 'Milwaukee Cannibal'.

The summary for Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, describes it as ‘a series that exposes these unconscionable crimes, centered around the underserved victims and their communities impacted by the systemic racism and institutional failures of the police that allowed one of America’s most notorious serial killers to continue his murderous spree in plain sight for over a decade'.

Alongside Peters, the show also features Richard Jenkins and Penelope Ann Miller as Dahmer’s parents, while Molly Ringwald and Michael Learned co-star as his stepmother and grandmother.

A first teaser for the series dropped yesterday, showing Peters’ Dahmer emerging from the shadows as a woman’s voice calls out in the background.

The voice – which belongs to Dahmer’s next door neighbour Glenda Cleveland (Niecy Nash) - chillingly says: “Excuse me? Jeff? I gotta say, that smell is worse than ever. I saw you go out to the dumpster and throw out a whole bunch of bad meat, so the smell should be gone by now. Jeff?”

Dahmer was arrested in 1991 after three boys came back to his Milwaukee apartment to pose for nude photos for $100 each, only for the killer to turn on them once inside.

One of the boys was handcuffed and told to sit in a room for the photographs, with Dahmer resting his head on his chest to listen to his heartbeat - before telling him he planned to eat his heart.

Another boy punched the killer in the face and ran from the apartment. He was able to flag down two police officers, who then found several body parts and severed heads stuffed inside Dahmer's fridge and freezer, along with polaroids of mutilated bodies.

The serial killer was diagnosed with a borderline personality disorder, schizotypal personality disorder and a psychotic disorder, but was found to be legally sane at his trial, where he was sentenced to life in prison.

Three years after being arrested, he was beaten to death by Christopher Scarver, a fellow inmate at the Columbia Correctional Institution in Wisconsin.
