UFC Fighter Opens Up About Being Polygamist With Two Wives And Six Children

He said the initial challenges of the arrangement have become easier to deal with over time

UFC fighter Zhalgas Zhumagulov has opened up about being in a polygamous relationship.

The 33-year-old has two wives and six kids, but he said the unorthodox arrangement works just 'fine'.

Speaking on the Let Me Interrupt You mixed martial arts podcast, he said: "Yes, I have two wives – two wives and six children.

"In principle, it’s normal, at first there were challenges but now everything is fine."

Despite polygamy (having more than one husband or wife at the same time) not being legal throughout North America, South America, and the European Union, Kazakh Zhumagulov finds it quite easy splitting his time between the two.

Explaining how it works, he said: "Well, where did I leave from?"

"If I left, for example, from my second wife, I go to the first. If I left the first, I go to the second.

"A day here, a day there."

To be fair, polygamy can get a lot more complicated than this. Take for example the case of Murray Blackmore, who is one of 150 siblings.

Murray is from the largest polygamous family in the world and was raised as a Mormon in a small 'sheltered community' in Canada.

He is part of the infamous Blackmore family, the patriarch of which is Winston Blackmore, leader of a polygamous Latter Day Saint religious group in Bountiful, British Columbia.

With 27 wives on the go, 65-year-old Winston has no less than 150 children - the 65th of whom is Murray, who regularly posts videos about his oversized family, explaining what it's like to have so many brothers and sisters.

In one video, he revealed his parents' method for remembering all of their kids' names.

Murray explained that his parents choose names all beginning with the same letter for the kids born in the same year.

For instance, those also in the same year as him - 2001 - all have names beginning with the letter M.

"Our names all start with the letter M... I'm Murray. 3 boys, 9 girls," he said in the post.

"Imagine having 12 babies born in the same year..."

Someone commented to ask if different age groups had different letters of the alphabet, to which Murray clarified: "Yes there are Rs Ns As Os Js etc."

In another video, he said he knew all of his sibling's names, but couldn't name them off the top of his head.

As for whether or not all 150 brothers and sister are close, Murray said: "Am I tight with my siblings? Can one person even be tight with that many people? That's like a population of some schools!

"For the majority of my siblings, it's kind of like we know about each other, but we're not really close.

"However, I am extremely close to some of them, and even view some of them as like my parents."
