New footage leaves fans convinced Tommy Fury didn't slip during Jake Paul fight

New footage leaves fans convinced Tommy Fury didn't slip during Jake Paul fight

Fans are flocking to social media resolute in the referee's decision Tommy Fury was knocked down in the eighth round of the Jake Paul match

Fans are flocking to social media resolute in the referee's decision Tommy Fury was knocked down in the eighth round of his match with Jake Paul.

On Sunday, 26 February the former Love Islander finally went head-to-head with YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul at the Diriyah Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

In the eighth - and ultimately final - round of the match, tensions rose when Fury protested he'd slipped rather than having been knocked down by Paul.

Footage shot by BT Sport, uploaded to Twitter earlier today (Wednesday, 1 March) shows Fury and Paul's eighth round from a different angle.

The video shows the moment Paul delivers a swift left hook to Fury's chin, Fury falling over after contact is made. However, Fury's right foot can also be seen at an awkward angle, sliding across the floor.

The post reads: "Was this a genuine knockdown from @jakepaul or a @tommytntfury slip?"

During the match, Fury protested he had slipped rather than been knocked down by Paul.

After he fell, Fury protested to referee Hector Afu's he hadn't been knocked down by Paul but had slipped on the centre ring logo, however Afu ruled in Paul's favour.

Upon viewing the new footage, many boxing fans have resolved Afu's decision was correct and Fury was knocked down by his opponent.

One user said: "His foot slips, but it's because of the punch. His balance was off, and the left hand caused him to go down. It's definitely a knockdown. Surprised, there's a debate."

"This shouldn’t even be a debate, the punch causes him to fall over. Yes his balance may have been off, but the punch leads to that reaction. It’s a flash knockdown, definitely not a slip," another wrote.

The new footage has led to most boxing fans resolving Fury's fall was definitely the result of a knock down.

A third commented: "Even his old man said it was a knock down … yeah he slipped but the punch caught him at the same time, wasn’t hurt at all but still a knock down just unlucky he slipped at the same time."

A final resolved: "Looks to me as though he was lifting the back foot up to move just as the jab came in, it knocked him off balance and look at the way he lands on his ankle rather than foot. I think it is, albeit an unfortunate one, a knockdown."

Thankfully for Fury, referee Afu's decision to rule the moment as a knockdown opposed to a slip didn't ruin his chances of coming out of the match victorious.

According to Compubox, Fury was credited with landing 88 out of 302 total punches (29.1 percent) opposed to Paul who it was resolved landed 49 out of 157 (31.2 percent).
