'World's strongest arm wrestler' has a 'secret weapon'

'World's strongest arm wrestler' has a 'secret weapon'

It turns out it really isn't just all in the wrist when it comes to arm wrestling

If it was ever your dream to become the world's greatest arm wrestler then there's a few things you need to know before making it a reality.

First and foremost you need to be very strong, but you probably knew that already because it seems like a rather obvious piece of advice.

Next you need to learn how to actually use all of that strength effectively because losing to an opponent with significantly smaller arms than yours is a good way to die of shame.

If you want to work on that, then you could do worse than study the masters of the craft and work out what makes them so darn good at arm wrestling.

It turns out that among the very best there's a 'secret weapon' which only a few arm wrestlers make the most of, and one who does their absolute best with it is Canadian professional arm wrestler Devon Larratt.

Larratt is considered to be one of the greatest pro arm wrestlers of all time so he's got some advice which is a few levels above 'pull the other person's arm over before they do the same to you'.

The champion arm wrestler's supposed 'secret weapon' was pointed out by YouTube channel Performance Enhancing Pancakes, which pointed out that while Larratt may not be the strongest arm wrestler in the world, what makes him one of the best is his insane pronator muscle.

They explained that the muscle which looked like 'a golf ball stuck to his elbow' was the 'anchor of Devon's arm wrestling technique', meaning that he could be overpowered by his opponent and still manage to win a bout of arm wrestling.

It's as simple as knowing that if you can't lose then you're not going to get beaten and given enough time you'll eventually win, wearing down your opponent as they come to terms with the fact that they simply cannot beat you.

You're also just going to need really big arms in general to make that 'secret weapon' count for something.

Arm wrestling is a serious enough business that when it goes wrong it can really go wrong.

There have been some horror stories about people having their arms broken from refusing to yield when their muscles could keep going but their bones couldn't.

Then there's some of the more outlandish results, like the time when shots were fired and an eight-hour standoff with the police triggered because a father and son got a little bit too into their arm wrestling.

The son apparently kept defeating his father, so the dad grabbed his gun and fired a couple of shots to show how much of a sore loser he was.

When the police showed up he refused to calm down, which led to the lengthy standoff before the dad finally surrendered and was taken away.
