Chris Eubank Jr had no idea fight was over and tried to throw another punch

Chris Eubank Jr appeared not to realise that his fight against Liam Smith had been stopped in the fourth round as the boxer looked ready to try and throw another punch.

Smith won the bout at the Manchester Arena yesterday (21 January) after the referee stopped the fight in the fourth round.

Honours had been pretty much even in the first three rounds of the fight, with Eubank seemingly dominant in the third round though some suspect Smith had merely decided to defend and wait for his moment to strike.

However, early in the fourth round Smith switched from defence to attack, throwing a series of powerful punches which backed Eubank into a corner.

A flurry of blows, including a brutal left handed uppercut, from Smith knocked his opponent down for the count, though Eubank was able to rise to his feet and convince the ref to continue the fight.

Despite this, the advantage was now clearly Smith's and seconds later Eubank was tumbling to the canvas once more.

The referee signalled that he was stopping the fight and Eubank's corner were about ready to throw in the towel themselves, handing the win to Smith.

The only person who seemingly didn't realise the fight was over was Eubank himself, as the boxer got to his feet once more and advanced on Smith, despite the ref already having stopped the fight.

The ref had been holding Eubank and trying to signal that the bout was over but the boxer broke free and acted as though he was ready to carry on.

While this was happening people were rushing into the ring to restrain the boxers and keep them apart in order to avoid the post-fight celebrations from turning into a violent spat.

The referee was one of those who grabbed Eubank's arm as it looked like he was preparing to throw a punch.

Things had been unfriendly between the boxers before the fight, with Smith casting aspersions on Eubank's sexuality during a press conference.

The boxer asked his opponent whether anyone in the press conference had 'ever seen you with a girl' and needled him over Eubank's comments about wanting to have kids.

Eubank responded to the bizarre attack by saying his private life was 'irrelevant to the boxing', and was 'happy' and 'comfortable'.

Following further attacks from Smith, Eubank said his opponent had taken the top spot as 'the biggest arsehole to come out of Liverpool', then accused Smith of cheating on his wife.

Both men later apologised for their remarks.
