Oktoberfest goers slam the price of beer at famous German festival

People are flooding to social media divided over Oktoberfest's prices.

Ah, October. The one month which makes the end of summer seem a bit more worth it - and you're still far enough away from Christmas you don't need to panic about buying presents just yet.

All you have to focus on is the joys of beer drinking at Oktoberfest - unless you've unfortunately already committed to Sober October - and eating sweets and dressing up for Halloween.

Alas, beer-drinkers have been left divided after a TikToker revealed how much they were charged for food and drink when they visited world's largest folk festival Oktoberfest in Munich, Germany.

In a video shared by Kathi Seidl - who goes by @kathixseidl on the platform - the 22-year-old revealed how much various items were at the festival, from food to a stein of beer.

The breakfast, per person, came to €19.90 (£17.24) and a stein of beer is listed by Kathi as €13.50 (£11.70) - however, the TikToker and her friends got it for free as one of them works for Oktoberfest, according to the Mail Online.

Kathi's second stein came to €14.50 (£12.59) - one euro extra as a tip.

A steak roll came to €7 (£6.07) and fried Hungarian bread Lángos cost €9 (£7.80).

And it wasn't just the food the group sampled either, also taking to the 'power tower' - a theme park ride - for €10 (£8.67).

People have flooded to social media in debate over the prices, some viewing Oktoberfest as too expensive.

One X user said: "Enjoy your over-priced Oktoberfest plss. Just up the road in Franken you get better beer at lower prices and no crowds."

"Just crazy expensive and unaffordable for the common people! It's not Oktoberfest, it's Upper-Class-Fest," another added.

One TikToker wrote: "But it never feels like you're spending a lot."

Another argued: "480 Euro, no matter once a year is fine."

A spokesperson for Oktoberfest said, as quoted by Mail Online: "The beverage prices are not set by the City of Munich.

However, as the organiser of the Oktoberfest, the city reviews the prices quoted by the restaurateurs to ensure they are reasonable.

They continued: "For this purpose, a comparison is made with the prices of large-scale catering establishments in the Munich city area.

"These prices currently range from €7.10 to €12.20 per litre of export beer."
