Bad news biscuit fans - Nestlé has announced its axing Breakaway biscuit bars.
The long-standing chocolate treat was launched all the way back in 1970 by Rowntree Mackintosh and was acquired by Nestlé in 1988.
Since then, they’ve been a British kitchen cupboard staple, but - due to a decline in sales - Nestlé has now announced the bars will be disappearing from shelves.

Nestlé is also getting rid of Yorkie biscuit bars, not to be confused with Yorkie chocolate bars, which are still in production.
In a statement, a spokesperson for the brand says the removal of the products will make for ‘exciting’ new ones set to launch this year.
A Nestlé spokesperson said: “We know fans will be disappointed to see it go, but it’s time for us to say goodbye to Breakaway.
“We have seen a decline in the sales of Breakaway over the past few years and, unfortunately, we had to make the difficult decision to discontinue it.
“By saying goodbye to Breakaway, we can focus on our best-performing brands, as well as develop exciting new innovations to delight consumers’ tastebuds.”

They added: “While we know it’s sad to see Yorkie Biscuit go, we want to assure shoppers that we have plenty of exciting new products lined up for 2024. Watch this space.”
Nestle said one new product will be a variation on the Blue Riband bar – a biscuit called Blue Riband Hazelnut with hazelnut filling layered between the wafers, which will be available in supermarkets from February.
Fans of the biscuit bars have not taken the news well, taking to X one gutted chocolate-lover said: “Not happy in fact incandescent. Nestlé is discontinuing Breakaway biscuits and Yorkie biscuit bars. I have at least one of those every day.”
Another wrote: “Nestlé discontinuing Breakaway bars and Yorkie biscuits bars is a scandal! Where do we riot?”

If you want to get your hands on Breakaway and Yorkie biscuits bars while you still can, they’re available to buy the bars throughout February and March at Sainsbury’s while stocks last.
In November last year, Nestlé announced it would be discontinuing the Caramac bar after 64 years.
The firm said in a statement: “We are very sorry to disappoint fans of Caramac. There has been a steady decline in its sales over the past few years and unfortunately we had to make the difficult decision to discontinue it.”
