Man jailed after he was caught stealing 200,000 Cadbury's Creme Eggs

A man has been sentenced after being caught chocolate-handed stealing a whopping 200,000 Cadbury's Creme Eggs.

On 11 February, at around 7:30pm, Joby Pool used a meat grinder to crack into an industrial unit in Telford, Shropshire.

The 32-year-old Grinch of Easter made off in a stolen tractor lorry cab with a trailer with chocolate worth over £31,000 inside - including nearly a quarter-of-a-million Cadbury's Creme Eggs.

Pool appeared before Judge Anthony Lowe at Shrewsbury Crown Court earlier today (Thursday, 20 July).

The 32-year-old admitted to driving without insurance, criminal damage - of the lock at the trailer park - and theft.

Pool's defence attorney, Debra White, argued the 32-year-old had a series of 'difficult things he was dealing with' at the time he committed the offence, having 'turned to drugs and alcohol' after 'two significant losses in his life,' on top of a 'loss' of his relationship and a fourth loss seeing his business go under.

White stated: "He has taken full responsibility. He is not self-pitying, he feels remorseful for the company involved and his family because he knows he has let them down."

However, Judge Lowe reflected on the 'significant degree of planning' which must've gone into the theft, adding Pool is 'not a man of good character' because he commit another theft previously in 2019.

Pool has since been sentenced to 18 months - half to be spent in prison and half on license living back in the community.

The six months Pool has already spent in prison awaiting trial will count towards his nine months in jail.
