Terri Irwin shares touching tribute to late husband Steve on the 17th anniversary of his death

Terri Irwin has shared a touching tribute to her late husband Steve on the anniversary of his death.

It's hard to believe it's been 17 years since the Australian legend was killed in a tragic stingray attack in Queensland.

He was only 44 years old when the incident happened while he was filming a documentary in 2006.

While September 4 will be a difficult day for the Irwins, they get to remember what an incredible bloke he was.

Terri shared a photo of Steve sitting in a small room with their dog Sui.

Bindi also uploaded a picture of her and her late dad holding up a snake in front of her face.

Steve's son Robert chose to post a video of their family a day earlier as it was Father's Day in Australia.

He wrote: "Days like this are filled with so many different emotions, but above all, I choose to make it a happy day to remember the best moments with the best Dad."

They were flooded with comments from fans hoping they were doing okay during this tough day.

One said: "Thank you for keeping him alive and present for all of us. You have forged a path for the rest of us widowed mamas to follow."

Another added: "He would be in awe of all the work you, Terri and Robert + the crew have put in."

It's beautiful that the Irwins mark the anniversary of his death by mentioning how much of a legend he was.

Nearly every year Terri, Bindi and Robert will express their feelings and prove they are one tight knit family.

A video was unearthed late last year showing how Steve thought family was the most important thing in the world.

The 2001 interview with Access Hollywood shows Irwin taking wife Terri and daughter Bindi on a tour of Los Angeles, at the height of his success with his widely popular show The Crocodile Hunter.

Speaking to the outlet, the late Irwin said: "We have the strongest family unit on the face of the earth. We try to do every single thing together."

Footage then showed the reptile loving Aussie pointing out a Crocodile Hunter poster to his infant daughter, as he asks her: "What's that crocodile doing? That crocodile has got daddy's boot, hasn't he?"

The legendary conservationist then said: "A family that does crocodiles together sticks together!"
