Martin Brundle fans fuming over missed opportunity as huge names show up to Saudi Arabian Grand Prix

Martin Brundle fans fuming over missed opportunity as huge names show up to Saudi Arabian Grand Prix

Martin Brundle is known for having viral and awkward encounters on the F1 grid

It’s just not a proper Martin Brundle grid walk if there isn’t some kind of viral, bizarre or awkward moment.

And Formula One fans were hoping for more of that today (9 March) as famous faces show up to the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix.

The 64-year-old has had his fair share of memorable encounters on the grid, from a bit of a run in with Cara Delevingne to an ‘embarrassing’ interview with Machine Gun Kelly.

But unfortunately for fans eager for some more Brundle chaos, the Brit isn’t doing his usual grid walk and commentary in Saudi Arabia this weekend.

It’s not gone down well with all Sky Sports viewers as one wrote on X: “No Martin Brundle grid walk and commentary.

“That sucks.”

Another simply slammed: “WHERE’S MARTIN BRUNDLE????”

As one savagely put: “I tweeted something similar at a race last year but my word when Martin Brundle isn't there the whole production is a big step down...”

And to be fair, fans could be missing out on some great opportunities if Brundle’s usual grid walk took place today.

Not only is singer Pharrell Williams there but also Anthony Joshua following his KO fight with Francis Ngannou in Riyadh last night (8 March).

Christian Horner, Principle of the Red Bull Racing, is also back in attendance with Spice Girls wife Geri Halliwell following a recent scandal.

Plus, The Special One José Mourinho is also there after he watched Joshua in the ring last night.

One fan wrote on X: “No because I need to see Martin Brundle interview him now.”

Well, that’s surely a few viral Brundle moments missed.

And with such a number of these awkward moments by this point, there ended up being a ‘Martin Brundle clause’ introduced to Formula One.

This came into play after the former racing driver tried to chat with Megan Thee Stallion in 2021 and asked if she had an impromptu rap ready - but she was ushered away by her security.

Brundle said that after that Formula One introduced a new rule that celebs walking on the grid couldn’t have security with them.

An F1 spokesperson at the time confirmed stars on the grid ‘aren’t obliged to do interviews’ but their security detail are ‘no longer allowed to accompany them’.

Basically, it’s believed the grid is safe enough that famous faces don’t need their security - so there’s no ring of people keeping Brundle at bay.

But still, there’s no obligation for them to have to chat if he sticks his microphone in their face.
