'Sovereign citizens' make up bizarre Steve Irwin theory in baffling rant

Two sovereign citizens have revealed their bizarre theory, and this time, it’s about Steve Irwin.

For those of you who have yet to encounter these folk, a sovereign citizen refers to a movement who believes they can operate outside the federal, state and local government's jurisdiction.

They usually believe they don’t have to pay taxes and claim they only have to abide by common law.

Of course, they usually have wild conspiracy theories, and the latest was captured on film.

A video uploaded to Twitter by Ken Behren shows two people kayaking outside on Canberra’s Molonglo River in front of Government House.

In the background, you can overhear two sovereign citizens yelling out to the kayakers that they can see two figures looming around the river.

The man says: “There is a bit of movement over there. They’re either Steve Irwins or they are military. They might be Steve Irwins.”

He adds: “At first I thought it was the military but it might be a couple of Steve Irwin groundskeepers.”

It’s unclear what the term ‘Steve Irwin’ means.

He continues: “The 17th person to ever be killed by a stingray. And the shape of the Australia Zoo is in a ‘Q’”.

The woman says: “Nothing to see here folks, just coincidence…”

The man may be referring to QAnon, the American conspiracy theory and political movement that idolises Donald Trump.

In the video, the officer asks: “Are you aware your bail conditions is not to be within 200 meters of a Government House?”

However, the man denies this, telling police he is only prohibited from visiting Yarralumla and Parkes.

The sovereign citizen adds: “Right now I won’t say nothing else. I was well aware that I was not going to breach my bail conditions, which is why I turned around and came back.”

The officer again outlines the conditions of his bail, to which the conspiracy theorist says he would have been ‘200 metres shy’ of Government House.

However, the policeman informed him they would be take him to the station.

“Shouldn’t you do your investigation and then come back and get me?” the man said.

The officer replied: “We formed a belief based on the footage that they’ve got."

Ah, done, by your own video, that’s poetic.

A spokesperson later confirmed to News Corp that the man had been arrested and faced the ACT Magistrates Court, where he was released on bail again.
