Scottish police arrest three including man wearing Australian football jumper at Queen's memorial

Hundreds of thousands have lined the streets to farewell the Queen, with the exception of a few arrested for 'disturbing' the peace.

Scottish police have arrested three people for anti-monarchy demonstrations in recent days as the Queen's body makes its procession down to London.

Queen Elizabeth II died on September 8 at Balmoral, her Scottish residence, after spending more than 70 years on the throne.

The Queen's body will make its way to London from Balmoral, with crowds lining the streets to view the coffin's procession of Edinburgh on Monday (September 12) with the new King Charles III and his siblings Anne, Andrew and Edward walking behind.

As the new King followed his mother's coffin, flanked by his siblings, a man could be heard shouting that Andrew was a 'sick old man' before the crowd and police officers moved him away.

The man was wearing a hoodie emblazoned with Australia's Melbourne City Football Club logo.

Formerly known as Melbourne Heart, the football team was renamed Melbourne City when it was taken over by top flight English Premier League side Manchester City in 2014.

A spokesman for Police Scotland told Holyrood a 22-year old man was arrested 'in connection with a breach of the peace' on the Royal Mile around 2.50pm on Monday.

When asked why he heckled Prince Andrew, the Royal Mile protester told Holyrood reporter Joseph Anderson that 'powerful men shouldn't be allowed to commit sexual crimes and get away with it'.

The protester was referring to the accusations against the Queen's son by Jefferey Epstein victim Virginia Giuffre.

Prince Andrew was accused by Giuffre of forcing her to have sex at a property belonging to Ghislaine Maxwell when she was 17-years-old.

As a result of the accusations, Prince Andrew was stripped of his military titles, however he will

be allowed to wear a military uniform for his mother's funeral.

Prince Andrew no longer faces a trial after reaching an out of court settlement with his accuser. He has denied the accusations against him.

Two others were also arrested in Scotland on Sunday.

According to Reuters, a 22-year old woman who had been pictured holding an anti-monarchy sign was arrested.

Additionally a 74-year old man was also arrested in a separate incident. Both were charged with breaching the peace.

In Oxford, a 45-year-old man was temporarily arrested in a disturbance during the county proclamation ceremony of King Charles, according to Thames Valley Police.

The man shouted 'who elected him?' as the proclamation was read out.

In the coming days, the Queen will be taken to the Palace of Westminster where she will lie in state for three days, her coffin on a raised box known as a catafalque in the middle of Westminster Hall.

The state funeral will be held at Westminster Abbey, with a two-minutes’ silence held across the country at midday.
