Prince Harry says 'they were happy to lie to protect my brother’ in new Netflix trailer

Prince Harry says 'they were happy to lie to protect my brother’ in new Netflix trailer

In a new trailer for Harry & Meghan, the Prince says there was ‘institutional gaslighting’ against his wife, Meghan Markle.

Prince Harry has claimed people close to him were ‘happy to lie to protect his brother’ but weren't willing to tell the truth to protect him and his wife, Meghan Markle.

In the trailer for the upcoming episode of the Netflix series Harry & Meghan, the Prince says there was ‘institutional gaslighting’ against his wife.

“I wonder what would have happened to us had we not got out when we did," Harry says as the trailer opens.

Meghan adds: "Our security was being pulled. Everyone in the world knew where we were."

As the camera pans to a shot of Buckingham Palace, Harry says: "They were happy to lie to protect my brother.

"They were never willing to tell the truth to protect us."

While viewers aren’t exactly sure how Prince William and his family were protected, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex spoke about the British tabloid media during the first three episodes and how insiders refused to shield the couple.

In the trailer, Meghan adds that she wasn’t thrown to the wolves but instead was ‘fed to them’.

It also teases the moment when the couple decided to formally step back from their royal duties in 2020 and relocate to Los Angeles.

Prince Harry boards a plane, labelling it the ‘freedom flight’ while smiling.

According to Forbes, when the couple relocated to the US, they initially stayed in a home owned by filmmaker and mogul Tyler Perry, who provided them security.

Perry also adds commentary in the trailer: “They just wanted to be free. They wanted to be free to love and be happy. I applaud at that.”

Since the first three episodes debuted last week, the couple has hit back at claims that they left the Royal Family over concerns for their privacy.

A spokesperson for Harry and Meghan accused the tabloid media of spinning this ‘entirely untrue narrative’.

According to BBC News, the couple's global press secretary, Ashley Hansen, said: “The Duke and Duchess have never cited privacy as the reason for stepping back.

"This distorted narrative was intended to trap the couple into silence.

“In fact, their statement announcing their decision to step back mentions nothing of privacy and reiterates their desire to continue their roles and public duties. Any suggestion otherwise speaks to a key point of this series.

“They are choosing to share their story, on their terms, and yet the tabloid media has created an entirely untrue narrative that permeates press coverage and public opinion.

"The facts are right in front of them.”
