Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been ordered to ‘vacate’ from their British home

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been ordered to ‘vacate’ from their British home

Frogmore Cottage, a Grade-II listed 10-bedroom property, was presented as a gift to the couple by the late Queen.

Prince Harry and Meghan have been ‘requested to vacate’ from Frogmore Cottage in the UK.

A spokesperson for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex confirmed the couple was asked to leave their home, which lies on the grounds of King Charles's Windsor Castle, as per BBC News.

A spokesperson said: "We can confirm the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been requested to vacate their residence at Frogmore Cottage."

Prince Harry and Meghan currently live in Montecito, California, where they are raising their two children, Archie and Lilibet, after stepping back as senior members of the Royal family in January 2020.

Frogmore Cottage, a Grade-II listed 10-bedroom property, was presented as a gift to the couple by the late Queen Elizabeth II.

According to the BBC, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex refurbished the property at an estimated cost of £2.4 million (AUD $4.2 m) in 2018-19, which the Sovereign Grant covered before being fully paid by the Duke.

The Sun reported that as Harry and Meghan ship the last of their belongings out to their California home, Prince Andrew has been offered the keys to the Royal estate.

Buckingham Palace is yet to comment on the issue, however the BBC says it will likely keep the matter private.

The move comes after the disgraced Prince was asked by his brother, King Charles, to vacate the Buckingham Palace apartment he’s occupied for decades.

The alleged sexual abuser lives with his ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson, at Royal Lodge, a 30-room mansion in Berkshire, about five kilometres south of Windsor Castle.

According to The Sun, The Duke of York was offered the smaller cottage last week but is ‘resisting’ being relocated.

An insider told the outlet: “This eviction surely spells the end of Harry and Meghan’s time in the UK.

“Andrew is resisting the idea of moving into Frogmore Cottage after he was offered it last week.

“But it shows Harry and Meghan are powerless to stop the eviction.”

Following Meghan and Harry being asked to vacate the property, it has cast doubt on whether the couple will be invited to the King’s coronation ceremony in May.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex recently shut down claims they were going to sue the creators of South Park after the animated TV show did a whole episode ripping into the couple.

A spokesperson for Harry and Meghan told Newsweek that speculation around the issue 'is baseless and boring'.
