One in eight men admit to bringing a condom to a funeral ‘just in case’

It's about filling the void - both literally and figuratively.

They say comedy is funnier when based in truth, and it seems like the film Wedding Crashers may have been right on the money with that.

In one of the movie’s most iconic scenes, Will Ferrell is seen cracking on to grieving women as a 'funeral crasher'.

Ferrell's character Chazz Reinhold drops the line: "Grief is nature's most powerful aphrodisiac."

And, according to a new study released by leading condom brand Trojan, it seems Reinhold was right.

Apparently one in eight men aged 35 and under have taken a condom with them to a funeral 'just in case'.

Yep, you read that correctly.

So why does this happen? Why would anyone want to cop a root after burying Nana?

Well, sexologist Patti Britton reckons the reasoning behind the after-funeral pants party is pretty straightforward.

"It’s really about filling the void — literally and figuratively," she said, as per lifestyle and culture magazine MEL.

"The grief trajectory is about a loss of closeness.

"That’s why our libido kicks in: To fill that void."

But Britton did warn that sex is not the answer for dealing with loneliness or loss.

"Many people think, If my penis is inside a cavity of her body, we must be close. But that doesn’t mean you actually are," she said.

"This is where sex is used inappropriately for connection and closeness when that isn’t really there."

Grief can also lead people to make bad decisions, which is rather damning for a post-funeral hook up.

"It hijacks your brain," she said.

Trojan's State of Sex survey spoke to 2,000 adults, aged 18 to 35 to get their statistics.

As well as the high number of men expecting to get some at a funeral, the study also found 77 per cent of those surveyed believe both men and women should have equal responsibility when it comes to protection, whether that be gift wrapping or taking the contraception pill.

Ironically, there is a French phrase literally meaning 'the little death', which refers to the deep sleep one has post-orgasm.

When it came to men, 78 per cent of them surveyed revealed they'd rather wear a condom than make their partner take a contraceptive pill that alters hormones in the body.

As for the ladies, just over half of those surveyed revealed they would prefer condoms over the pill.

Currently, the contraceptive pill is only available to women.

If men want to prevent pregnancies, the options are either condoms or undergoing a vasectomy.

That, however, may be set to change, with doctors revealing a recent trial on a male pill performed on mice had proven to be 100 per cent effective.

It doesn't get better than that, people, so get ready to pop a pill and bang away to your heart's content at the first wake after the medication is released publicly.
