Man sues woman for £2.6 million because she saw him as a friend and didn’t want a relationship

Man sues woman for £2.6 million because she saw him as a friend and didn’t want a relationship

The bloke believes the rejection has damaged 'his stellar reputation' and caused him 'trauma' and 'depression'.

A man in Singapore has taken rejection very much to heart and has decided to launch a lawsuit against his love interest.

Mr K. Kawshigan met Ms Nora Tan in 2016, according to The Straits Times, however the latter saw him more as a friend.

The man says by 2020 he thought their relationship was a little closer than that as he called her his 'closest' friend.

However, Ms Tan wanted her mate to chill out a bit and reduce the time they were spending with each other.

She said it was important they had boundaries and hopefully that would result in a better friendship.

However, Mr Kawshigan didn't see it that way and threatened legal action against her.

He reportedly gave her a letter that stated he was entitled to 'monetary damages arising from negligent infliction of emotional distress and possible defamation'.

Even though she said his intentions made her feel uncomfortable, Kawshigan gave her an ultimatum.

She was told to either give in to his desires or suffer 'damage to her personal and professional endeavours', according to The Straits Times.

The news outlet states Ms Tan agreed to go to Mr Kawshigan's counselling to help him move past the idea of them being together.

However, after 18 months of trying, the man simply couldn't get over it.

Ms Tan decided to stop speaking with Kawshigan because she 'could no longer deal with his requests for increased interaction and his inability to respect her personal boundaries'.

So, he did what any person would do: sue her for £2.6 million.

He's launched two lawsuits in the High Court and claims her rejection has damaged 'his stellar reputation' and caused him 'trauma', 'depression' and other 'impacts' to his life.

He alleges this whole ordeal has affected his ability to operate as an 'active high-capital trader by night and a busy CEO by day'.

Kawshigan claims he's lost earning capacity and business partnerships due to the awkward friendship.

He also wants to be remunerated for 'costs incurred in rehabilitation and therapy programmes to overcome the trauma he suffered'.

Kawshigan also tried to sue Ms Tan for $22,000 for a 'magistrate’s court claim' over allegations she breached an agreement to improve their relationship.

However, that was shut down by the courts because it was 'manifestly groundless and without foundation'.

State Courts deputy registrar Lewis Tan said: "This court will not be an accessory to his calculated attempt to compel engagement from the defendant who, after years of massaging the claimant’s unhappiness, has finally decided to stand up to his threats rather than cower and give in to his demands.”
