Urgent search underway as man goes missing with his dog while hiking

Police are asking the public to get in touch with information

Police are appealing for information from the public after a 33-year-old man went missing in Scotland while walking with his dog.

Kyle Sambrook arrived in Glencoe last Saturday (18 February) at about 3:30pm after setting off in his black Peugeot 208 from West Yorkshire.

He was seen the following day in the Lost Valley area of Glencoe around 12 noon, but has not been in touch with friends or family since he set off.

Sambrook had intended to stay for three nights in the area.

Sambrook had intended to walk and wild camp in the area with his dog, a Beagle called Bane, and to return home on Tuesday (21 February), but concerns for his welfare are growing after his car was found in the Three Sister’s car park in Glencoe.

Sergeant Shaun Knox, of Police Scotland, said Sambrook had been 'suitably clothed for walking' and was believed to be carrying a tent and other equipment for his trip.

"He may have changed his original plan to climb Buchaille Etive Mor and it is important that we find him to make sure he is safe and well," Knox added.

“We are asking anyone who was out and about on Sunday in the area, and in the days since, if they recall seeing Kyle and his dog, both are quite distinctive."

Buachaille Etive Mòr, a mountain also known as The Buachaille, is located at the head of Glen Etive in the Highlands of Scotland.

Sambrook has been described as white, 5ft 8ins, of medium build, with ash blond hair short hair, ginger/blond stubble, blue eyes and a West Yorkshire accent.

Sambrook was with his Beagle, Bane when he went missing.

He was thought to be wearing khaki and black Merrell hiking boots, khaki and black Revolution Wraith outdoor trousers, a dark and light blue hooded Peter Storm waterproof jacket and a grey North Face beanie hat, and carrying a grey and yellow Merrell backpack.

Extensive searches have been launched in an effort to find Sambrook, with multiple Mountain Rescue Teams, including those from Glencoe, Lochaber, Oban, Arran and Police Scotland, involved in the operations.

The teams are assisted by the RAF, Coastguard and the Search and Rescue Dog Association (SARDA).

“We would like to thank everyone who has responded to our appeal as every piece of information, no matter how small, could be vital in helping us to find him," Knox said.

Members of the public are being urged to get in touch with Police Scotland with any information, calling on 101 and quoting reference number 1644 of Wednesday, 22 February, 2023.
