Kanye West is being sued for $250 million by George Floyd’s family

Kanye West is being sued for $250 million by George Floyd’s family

His family are fighting back after Ye's comments disputing Floyd's cause of death.

The mother of George Floyd's daughter has filed a $250 million lawsuit against Kanye West over his recent comments about her former partner's death.

As per a news release issued on behalf of the family, Floyd’s family has now issued a cease-and-desist letter to the 45-year-old musician after he disputed Floyd's cause of death in 2020 at the hands of Minneapolis police.

The media statement branded the rapper, who now prefers to be called 'Ye' as 'repugnant'.

The media release added: "Some words have consequences and Mr West will be made to understand that."

Floyd's death went on to spark a worldwide movement against police brutality.

West sat down with the podcasters from Drink Champs to reveal what he had gleaned from the George Floyd 'documentary' The Greatest Lie Ever Sold: George Floyd and the Rise of BLM, made by alt-right figurehead Candace Owens.

Owens appeared alongside West at his show at Paris Fashion Week adorned in one of the rapper's controversial 'White Lives Matter' shirts.

West, who now prefers to be known as 'Ye', said he believes the ultra-dangerous drug fentanyl was the cause for Floyd's death, not lack of oxygen.

"I watched the George Floyd documentary that Candace Owens put out," West told Drink Champs.

"One of the things that his two roommates said was they want a tall guy like me, and the day that he died, he said a prayer for eight minutes."

The 45-year-old added: "They hit him with fentanyl. If you look, the guy’s knee wasn’t even on his neck like that. When he said 'momma', 'momma' is his girlfriend."

"It's in the documentary."

In the same interview, the ‘Runaway’ singer then proceeded to compare Floyd to the late Virgil Vbloh.

"This white company Louis Vuitton is now making statues of him as a martyr, and we don’t know why exactly [he died], they said it was cancer," he said.

Floyd was killed on May 25, 2020 after police officer Derek Chauvin kneeled on his neck for more than nine minutes.

The court found that Floyd had died from a lack of oxygen, but he did have traces of fentanyl in his system at his time of death.

Following Floyd’s death, Chauvin was charged with second-degree unintentional murder, third-degree murder and manslaughter.

He went down for 22-and-a-half years in prison for unreasonable use of force.
