Johnny Depp's Lawyer Explains Flaws In Amber Heard's Photo Evidence

Johnny Depp's Lawyer Explains Flaws In Amber Heard's Photo Evidence

One of the lawyers who formed part of Johnny Depp's team in his recent defamation trial has explained the details behind some flaws in photo evidence provided by Amber Heard.

The Pirates of the Caribbean actor recently won his defamation claim against Heard as she was ordered to pay $15 million in damages, later reduced to $10.35 million by Judge Penney Azcarate.

In a separate verdict, Depp was ordered to pay Heard $2 million in damages via a counterclaim she had filed against him.

Depp had filed the lawsuit against his ex-wife over a 2018 Washington Post article she wrote about her experience with domestic abuse.

His legal team argued the piece implied Depp was physically and sexually abusive during their relationship despite not being explicitly named in the article.

Speaking after the highly publicised trial, lawyer Ben Chew explained what he thought some of the flaws were behind pieces of evidence presented by Heard's legal team.

In particular, he went over videos and photos taken by Heard and used as evidence during the trial, arguing that there were flaws in what Heard's team claimed they showed and what the evidence actually was.

He said: "They loved the video of Johnny slamming cabinets, that's not tantamount.

"Even that video itself, it was taken by Miss Heard. What's the motive to do that, to show your spouse in a less than favourable moment?"

Chew also critiqued the photo evidence taken by Heard, arguing that her descriptions of injuries didn't line up with what was shown as evidence.

He said: "She was taking a lot of pictures but they weren't pictures of the types of injuries that she was describing.

"I think there was a real disconnect between what she was describing and what was depicted in the photographs."

Chew said that since Depp always wore heavy rings on both hands, there would have been more prominent injuries if there was 'anything remotely like the violence that she described'.

He argued that Heard would have suffered 'really grave injuries' if Depp had struck her the way she had described.

Heard is intending to launch an appeal against the verdict, with her lawyer Elaine Bredehoft saying her client can't afford to pay the damages.

Depp's initial defamation lawsuit against Heard was for $50 million, while Heard's countersuit against her ex-husband was for $100 million.

The actor has said he is 'moving forward' with his life following the verdict of his defamation suit against his ex-wife.
