Gamer's bonkers Nintendo 64 mission that took him 6 years to complete

One gamer set out to achieve the impossible - complete every Nintendo 64 (N64) game available in the North American region.

The N64 is one of the most iconic and timeless gaming consoles of all time, breathing life into games such as Super Mario Bros. and The Legend of Zelda. 

There's all sorts of different games available in different parts of the world. In North America, for example, Nintendo released a whopping 296 games.

And so a challenge was borne. In order to be crowned as king or queen of Nintendo, one must play and complete all 296 games released in North America.

So that's exactly what Canadian gamer Samuel Girard set out to do.

Once he decided to take up the challenge he put in years of blood, sweat, and tears (actually, just gaming dedication) to get the task done, Essentially Sports reports.

Girard, who goes by the Twitch tag AceGamerSam, started his gaming social media channel six years ago with Super Mario 64 the beginning his journey.

Girard took his viewers on the N64 with him as he set out on his quest to achieve the highly coveted record.

But, with any adventure there are trials and tribulations. Some came in the form of criticism from viewers and other gamers.

While some players would regard defeating the final boss or mission as the completion of the game, others would go back in time and try to figure out every possible scenario in order to achieve full completion.

Girard, however, paid no attention to such critiques and continued powering on on his way towards N64 royalty status.

He named the likes of Banjo Kazooie, Perfect Dark, and Diddy Kong Racing as his favourites, but felt games such as Aidyn Chronicles were a bit of a drag.

However, he saved his favourite to last, the game that started his journey into the N64 world - Super Mario 64.

"Super Mario 64. It was important to me because it came full circle," he told Radio Canada.

"It’s the first three-dimensional game I played and replayed when I was 8 or 9 years old. It accompanied me in my youth when I went to play with friends too."

He added: "To return to this game and to play, it represents a form of comfort for me.”

Girard completed his 296 game challenge by finishing his favourite game of the bunch as he was crowned the undisputed Nintendo king.

And it cost him a pretty penny too, with the collection of 296 games costs as much as a family car.

The complete collection is currently going for around AU$44,000 (US$30,000, £30,400) on eBay.
