Flossie wins Guinness World Record for being the oldest cat on the planet

Flossie wins Guinness World Record for being the oldest cat on the planet

She's spent nearly 27 years on this planet and doesn't let her old age get in the way of having fun.

A cat who lives in Britain has been crowned as the oldest feline on the planet by the Guinness World Records.

The adorable Flossie has spent nearly 27 years on this beautiful globe of ours and she will have no doubt seem some things in that time.

Technically, the cat is 26 years and 329 days old.

Despite her old age, she's described as being as 'beautiful and playful as a kitty'.

While 27 years is long by any stretch of the imagination, when you convert it to cat years, it's even more mind-blowing.

The Guinness World Records states 27 years translates into 120 years in cat terms.

Sadly, she's now deaf, however she doesn't let that stop her from being 'curious' and 'quickly adapts to new environments despite her lack of sight'.

Flossie was first adopted way back in December 1995 when a worker from the Merseyside Hospital took her home.

She was previously living as a stray, however finally had a home to call hers.

That owner cared for the cat for 10 years until they died and then Flossie was passed on to the owner's sister.

The cat was able to have a stable household for more than a decade until that sister died as well.

At the ripe old age of 24, the cat was passed down to the woman's son.

However, after three years, the man made the difficult decision to hand the cat over to volunteers at Cats Protection's Tunbridge Wells, Crowborough and District Branch.

Guinness World Records

The Guinness World Records states: "He realised that he couldn’t tend to Flossie’s needs and made the responsible choice to entrust her to the care of a charity that could, truly and completely, give the kitty the care, attention and companionship she required as an elderly cat."

The people at Cat Protection were able to regime Flossie with her current owner, Vicki.

Vicki said: "She was loud for the first few nights because she can’t see in the dark and was a bit confused in her new surroundings, but she sleeps through the night now, snuggled on the bed with me."

Vicki had experience in looking after senior cats and now gives the ole girl all the love and attention she needs.

"I knew from the start that Flossie was a special cat, but I didn’t imagine I’d share my home with a world record holder," she said.

"She's so affectionate and playful, especially sweet when you remember how old she is. I'm immensely proud that Cats Protection matched me with such an amazing cat."
