Rapper Fetty Wap sentenced to 6 years in prison for drug trafficking

Fetty Wap has been sentenced to six years in prison and five years of post-release supervision for conspiracy to distribute cocaine.

The rapper - real name William Junior Maxwell II - was indicted along with five other people in late 2021.

The 31-year-old pleaded guilty to conspiracy to possess and distribute controlled substances and faced a minimum of five years in prison.

While the prosecution pushed for a sentence of seven to nine years, today (Wednesday, 24 May), in federal court in Central Islip, Maxwell was sentenced to six years in prison by District Judge Joanna Seybert.

According to court findings, as per a release from the United States Attorney's Office in the Eastern District of New York, Maxwell and the five other defendants involved distributed over 100kg of cocaine, heroin, fentanyl and crack cocaine across Long Island and New Jersey.

It read: "The defendants obtained the narcotics on the west coast and used the United States Postal Service and drivers with hidden vehicle compartments to transport the controlled substances across the country to Suffolk County, where they were stored.

"The drugs were then distributed to dealers, who sold them on Long Island and in New Jersey. Five of the defendants also used firearms to protect their drug organization and distribution chain," the release continues.

According to the release, the 'Trap Queen' rapper's role in the organisation was as 'a kilogram-level redistributor'.

Four of the other defendants "participated in the purchase and transportation of the narcotics from the west coast to the east coast where they were processed, stored and ultimately resold" and the fifth transported kilograms of cocaine from Long Island to New Jersey.

Around $1.5 million (£1.2 million) in cash, 16kg of cocaine, 2kg of heroin and 'numerous' fentanyl pills were seized during the investigation.

Weapons were also retrieved, including two 9mm handguns, a .45 caliber pistol, a .40 caliber pistol, a rifle and ammunition.

Earlier this year, New Jersey correction officer Anthony Cyntje - one of Maxwell's co-defendants - was similarly sentenced to 72 months in prison for his role in the conspiracy.

The other four defendants are awaiting sentencing. They've all pleaded guilty.
