Elon Musk confirms he's not actually buying Manchester United

Elon Musk has confirmed that he's not actually buying Manchester United.

The billionaire is known for making some pretty outlandish statements on social media, and he's gone and done it again.

It's safe to say that the Premier League club has seen better days, with the team losing the first two games of the new season in quite spectacular fashion.

And Musk sent Twitter into meltdown when he claimed that he was going to buy United from its current owners, the Glazer family.

The 51-year-old made the comment when he was discussing his political leanings, writing: "To be clear, I support the left half of the Republican Party and the right half of the Democratic Party!"

Adding soon after: "Also, I’m buying Manchester United ur welcome."

As I said earlier, Musk says a lot of s**t on Twitter, so it's hard to know what is true and what's not.

And he definitely has enough money to buy the club - valued at £4 billion - so it's not exactly out of the question.

I mean, Manchester United is one of the biggest clubs in the world.

However, following back to back defeats, they sit at the very bottom of the league, and are in desperate need of help. But it looks like Musk isn't the white knight that some might have been hoping for.

After a lot of people piled into the comments to ask if he was being serious, the South African confirmed that he has no desire to purchase the football club.

Addressing the fervour, he said: "'No, this is a long-running joke on Twitter. I'm not buying any sports teams."

However, he did go on to say that he had a soft spot for United and if he ever did go into sports, it would be them.

Adding: "Although, if it were any team, it would be Man U. They were my fav team as a kid."

Many United fans have been at odds with the Glazers since the Tampa Bay Buccaneers owners used multiple loans in order to buy the club back in 2005 - a debt which is still yet to be paid off.

Fans have protested their ownership on multiple occasions with the slogan ‘Glazers Out’ often seen on banners throughout Old Trafford.

Things have only been getting worse in recent years, with the team on the pitch, the facilities at Old Trafford, and the club's training ground all declining, with no investment from the owners' money.

There are currently plans in place for the fans to boycott the club’s next match at Old Trafford against huge rivals Liverpool.

The hashtag #EmptyOldTrafford has been gathering momentum on social media, with the latest plan meaning fans will empty their seats and leave the stadium looking bare.
