Conor McGregor denies attacking woman on his yacht as investigation takes place

Conor McGregor has outright denied allegations that he attacked a woman aboard his super-yacht, as investigations get underway.

An unnamed Dublin woman alleges that she attended a party on the MMA fighter's yacht near Ibiza last summer to celebrate his birthday.

She claims that the next morning McGregor became aggressive and physically assaulted her until she jumped into the water to escape him, according to Spanish paper Ultima Hora.

Local reports suggest that the woman was someone known to McGregor from childhood, who was invited on board the yacht after bumping into him at a beach club in Ibiza.

At first, no case was brought against McGregor as the woman initially claimed she was attacked by another man.

However, the woman has since alleged that McGregor was the man behind the attack, prompting an investigation into the Irish athlete.

Spanish officials have confirmed that the investigation into the woman's claims has been opened by a court in Ibiza.

A statement from the investigating magistrate read: "I can confirm a court in Ibiza is investigating an Irish national for an alleged crime of wounding."

A spokesperson for Conor McGregor, Karen Kessler, has confirmed that he 'is steadfast in his denial of the accusations made by a guest on his boat.'

Conor McGregor celebrated his 34th birthday aboard his luxury Lamborghini yacht last July.

His wife Dee Devlin and children were also on board the £2.9 million boat for the celebration.

Another Spanish news outlet, Periodico de Ibiza, reports that the unnamed woman was verbally attacked first, and claims that she unintentionally prompted the alleged physical attack when she 'tried to get a friend who was on board the yacht to help her.'

She is quoted in the paper claiming that McGregor then began kicking and punching her and 'threatening to drown her.'

Conor McGregor has not been charged with any crime.

Charges will only be made in this case after investigations are finished and shortly before a trial begins, as is common practice in Spain.

If the former UFC champ is summoned for questioning, a private hearing will be launched.
