Chef sets new Guinness World Record after cooking non-stop for a whopping 93 hours

A chef has broken a Guinness World Record after cooking non-stop for 93 hours and 11 minutes.

The 26-year-old Nigerian chef Hilda Baci started cooking on Thursday May 11, and continued until Monday May 15.

She dished up more than 100 pots of food during her four-day stint.

Baci impressively broke the previous record of 87 hours 45 minutes, which was set by Lata Tondon from India in 2019.

The chef initially strived to cook for 100 hours; however, she had seven minutes deducted as she accidentally took a longer break.

And we don’t blame you, sis.

As with all ‘longest marathon’ records, participants are allowed a five-minute rest break for every continuous hour of activity and can only have assistance once.

During her stint, the 26-year-old cooked mostly Nigerian meals, including jollof rice and different types of rice and pasta, as per BBC News.

She also made akara - a popular street food made from deep-fried mashed beans - and handed it out to guests.

Leftovers were donated to the Festus Fajemilo Foundation.

Baci prepared for the event by creating a 35-item menu she used ‘as a guide’ for every meal throughout the marathon.

According to the chef, each pot she cooked was big enough to serve 30-35 people, and ‘appropriate stock control was conducted’ to prevent food wastage.

But aside from breaking a world record, the young chef’s driving force was to ‘put Nigerian cuisine on the map’ and 'inspire young African women to chase their dreams’.

“I also decided to break this record to truly push my limits and test my abilities,” she told Guinness World Record.

She added: “My team’s and my goal for this event was to make it free to all and to feed the less privileged."

In fact, Baci’s cook proved so popular that many rallied to support her, including high-profile figures and celebrities, via an Instagram Livestream.

"Hilda's cook-a-thon was in fact so popular that our website crashed for two days due to the immense volume of traffic we received from her legion of loyal fans," the outlet added.

After she had completed the cook-a-thon, a teary-eyed Baci took to Instagram to thank all her supporters on her cooking journey.

"I'm still in awe, like I think I'm still in shock," she said in the video. "I'm so happy and I'm so grateful to everyone."
