The only known interview footage of Britain's most notorious prisoner Charles Bronson has been unearthed

Charles Bronson hopes to be out of prison soon, but this interview from 1989 sees him discuss how he ended up spending so long in prison

Rare interview footage filmed with Charles Bronson that might be the only known to exist has surfaced ahead of his potential parole hearing and release this year. You can see the video below.

Bronson has been described as ‘Britain’s Most Dangerous Prisoner’ in the past, but that name doesn’t necessarily translate into the modern day.

He’s certainly one of Britain’s longest serving prisoners, which he hopes to change this year by getting released on parole.

In this interview, Bronson – nowadays Charles Salvador – spoke from HMP Long Lartin whilst he was serving a sentence of seven years for armed robbery.

In the interview, Bronson expressed his concerns about getting out of prison before he returned to where he still resides, complaining that he wasn’t offered any help to adjust him to the outside world.

He said: “I petitioned to the Home Secretary about coming out of Cat A, coming out of solitary confinement, my last 12 months, but it was all blanked.

“I wanted to come off Cat A, I asked to go to a hostel, because I didn’t want to come out of prison.

“My old dad picked me up outside Gartree Prison in Leicestershire, and I was released as a Category A prisoner, so I wasn’t given any form of rehabilitation whatsoever, such as I had no home leave, no parole, no nothing.

“Now, on the way home my add pulled into the café on the motorway, and I wasn’t properly ready for mixing with people.

“I went to the toilet and there was about seven or eight people in the toilet – geezers.

“Now, I was convinced that those people were waiting for me.”

The interviewer asked: “Paranoia?”

Bronson continued: “Well, I don’t know about paranoid, but I felt that they were waiting for me.

“Put it in a nutshell, I was ill-prepared to go out, I wasn’t ready for the people.

“I lasted 10 weeks and I’m back in again.”

Bronson maintains he is rehabilitated and deserves his release.

Now, Bronson is looking to get out, with a parole hearing in public set potentially for the early parts of this year.

He has made statements about how he wants to live out his days as a reformed character focusing on his art, even attempting to raise money for a caravan to live in.

It remains to be seen whether that will come to fruition, but after nearly half a century behind bars, Charles Bronson may yet see the light of day once again as a free man.
