Puppy Barked At Top Of Lungs Until It Was Saved From 55°C Car

A puppy had to bark and yelp for its life after it was left in a baking hot car by its owner.

Boomer screeched as loudly as he could to get the attention of passers-by in San Jacinto, California, earlier this week, where temperatures reached almost 100°F (37°C).

After spotting the little guy barking from the parked motor, and fearing temperatures may be even higher inside, a stranger managed to pull the dog to safety.

In a post to its Facebook page, Riverside County Sheriff's Office said the puppy had stopped moving but the person who pulled the pet pooch out managed to perform life-saving aid.

Officers responded quickly to the call and placed the dog in the back of an air-conditioned patrol car, at which time they noted the internal temperature of the parked car Boomer had been in was 130°F (55°C).

The owner of the car was later found and arrested for animal cruelty, and Boomer was given to the Ramona Humane Society where he was cared for.

A spokesperson for Riverside County Sheriff's Office warned people about the importance of making sure their pets were not left alone in cars, especially on hot days.

They said: "As a reminder, NEVER leave children or pets alone in a vehicle for even a moment. Temperatures inside a closed vehicle can reach more than 120°F within minutes, even with the windows partly opened on a cloudy day.

"Pets, horses and livestock are also susceptible to difficulties from hot weather. Animals do not perspire and rely on panting, wetting down, shade, cool earth and drinking water for cooling.

"Animals cannot explain their needs, so it is up to people to ensures that their needs are met, especially during periods of extreme or prolonged heat."

Last month, a shopper at a retail park in Wales was forced to break a car window in order to save the life of a poor dog who had been shut inside on an extremely hot day.

The man, who spotted the dog sitting inside the vehicle at Fforestfach in Swansea, used a tool to smash the window before making sure that he removed all of the glass shards before rescuing the animal.

A video shot at the scene by fellow shopper Zoey Thornton shows the rescuer breaking the window before letting the dog out of the passenger side door so it can breath cool air once again.

The 29-year-old claims the dog was in the car for 'at least 30 minutes' before it was saved.
