An American has been mocked by Brits for ‘drying out’ their electric kettle after making a brew, with social media users saying it’s the ‘wrongest thing’ they’ve ever seen.
Making a cup of tea is, of course, a very personal thing – and something Brits take very seriously.
Many people can’t agree on how long the teabag should be left to brew (at least five minutes, IMO), while others will argue about whether to put the milk in before or after the tea (after, always after).
But one person has gone viral for a form of tea etiquette that no one even know was a thing, having been spotted ‘drying’ their electric kettle.

Posting a photo of a kettle upside down on a drying rack, Redditor u/bartharris wrote: “My American brother-in-law drying his kettle…”
After being posted a few days ago, the image has racked up 1,500 upvotes and hundreds of comments from bemused – and amused - internet users.
“They're not normal are they...” one person wrote.

Someone else said: “This is the wrongest thing I've ever seen.”
A third commented: “The f**ker is nuts.”
A fourth added: “This is f**king funny as I’ve never heard of such a thing. Tell him not to forget to dry the tea bags out as well while he’s there.”
Another asked if he also hangs the ‘washing machine outside to try’, while one also joked that he may have put the ‘toaster in the dishwasher’.
However, some wanted to play ‘devil’s advocate’ and suggested it may not be such a daft idea after all.

One explained: “I live in an area with high limescale, after I descale the kettle I dry it like this on the plate drying rack. I do the same if I'm going on holiday so no stagnant water is sitting in the bottom whilst I am away. Maybe he was drying after descaling? (Although you do usually wipe down the outside at the same time!)”
Another replied: “Good point. I had to descale my coffee maker every few months when I lived in Texas.”
One other Reddit user added to the debate, saying: “I now live in a dry and humid environment (Western Australia). I do this to stop the inside from going gross or attracting cockroaches and other pests that are attracted to water (boiled roach anyone?) Obvious you don’t submerge the thing, that would be stupid. We just wipe it down and leave it upside down to dry on the drying rack.”
