There's something quite exciting about stopping in a hotel isn't there? A night or maybe more away is certainly a nice change of pace.
Even if you are in one for a work trip, there's something quite fun about having your night's kip in new surroundings.
One thing a lot of us have more than likely never thought about when it comes to checking into a hotel is what floor we are on.

Well, I think a lot of us want to avoid the first floor so we have a bit of a view from the window, but according to one former FBI agent, you'll want to be avoiding the first floor for a very different reason.
Tracy Walder worked for the FBI as a special agent between 2000 and 2005, learning a bunch of safety measures us average folks would have no idea about.
In a video uploaded to her TikTok channel (@theunexpectedspy) last month, Tracy explained how you want to be between the third and the sixth floor in any hotel.
She said: "The safest floors are floors three to six, you don't want to be on the ground floor. If they put you on the ground floor, ask for that to be changed.

"The reason I say three to six is it's difficult for someone to climb up that, however it is for the most part pretty accessible if there's an emergency like a fire."
Certainly a more important thing to consider than the view provided from the hotel window...
Tracy, who says she travels often on her own, provided her followers with other tips to keep safe when on your travels.
She explained: "Lock the security lock, it's the first thing I do behind myself when I enter the room, lock the security lock right away.

"And whenever you are in the room, keep that lock locked, there's really no reason to have it unlocked if you're inside your room."
The former FBI agent went on to say she travels with a rubber door stop, which she jams into the door while you are sleeping for even extra security.
Many TikTok users have flocked to the comment section of the video to provide their thoughts on the advice.

"I forgot the doorstop but I jammed the ironing board against the door and wall," one person wrote.
A second added: "I think the floors 3-6 is a good thumb rule for choosing apartments as well."
While a third joked: "Me traveling in hostels trusting the world."
