Viewers stunned at 'biggest ever' Glastonbury crowd for Elton John's final ever UK performance

Viewers stunned at 'biggest ever' Glastonbury crowd for Elton John's final ever UK performance

This could be the largest crowd in history that have turned up to rock out to the festival's headline act.

Fans and music aficionados have been left stunned around the world at the gargantuan crowds that turned out to see British icon Elton John play his last-ever set in the United Kingdom.

The British pop legend took to the Pyramid stage to delight fans with performances of his greatest hits, including Saturday, Candle In the Wind, and Benny and The Jets.

In snapshots of the pop star's epic set left many bewildered as some asked if Elton John had attracted the largest-ever crowd in Glastonbury.

One fan asked on Twitter: "Is this the biggest Glastonbury crowd ever?"

Another added: "I would bet my life that Elton John is gonna be the biggest ever crowd at Glastonbury. It is insane on the pyramid stage already."

While a third said: "Elton opens with Pinball Wizard. Fireworks blast from behind the Pyramid Stage. The crowd goes nuts. The first 30 seconds of this set are already better than anything any other headliner has done all weekend."

A fourth chipped in with: "“You know when they say legend it’s not taken lightly describing Elton John… I don’t think I’ve ever seen so many in the crowd at Glastonbury."

After a stellar rendition of The B***h Is Back, Elton told the crowd: "I never thought I would ever play Glastonbury and here I am. "It’s a very special and emotional night for me because it might be my last show ever in England, so I had better play well and I had better entertain you, you’ve been standing there so long and I really appreciate all the outfits and everything."

The 76-year-old went on to thank fans around the world for their love and support throughout his career, which spans a massive 52 years.

"I’ll always have you in my head and my heart and my soul," he told the thronging crowds.

A number of fans turned out in iconic costumes worn by the now-76-year-old throughout the years, with glitter and sequins gleaming in the festival lights for as far as the eye could see.

The Rocket Man thanked Glastonbury revellers for 'dressing up' and 'making me feel so happy'.

"It makes me feel loved. And I want to thank you also for 52 years of amazing love and loyalty you’ve shown me, it’s been an incredible journey and I’ve had the best, best time."

Same, Elton. Same.

Approximately 200,000 people attend Glastonbury every year.

And apparently they all went to Elton's set, looking at the humongous and heaving mass of people who turned out to see the British icon play one final time.

Just kidding, we're being a tad dramatic.

In 2022, over 100,000 people rocked up to see former Beatle Paul McCartney play as Glastonbury's headliner.

The musical luminary played to roughly 200,000 people.

But Elton is expected to top that. But we'll just have to wait til those offical numbers are released.
