The dating world can be a vicious arena where potential mates are sacked off for a single fault. Dating apps haven't made things easier, reducing every person down to a few select photographs, a witty caption and a few emojis to express who you are as a person.

Everyone has their deal breaker: too short, too tall, not enough hair, too much hair, too self-indulgent, every photo is a group shot. We take a look at someone and decide whether or not that second long impression was good enough to warrant a swipe right, and even then, you might find out that you're not compatible.

But now it turns out there are people complaining that they just simply cannot find the right person, because according to them, no one matches their intelligence level. However, two women arguing this point received no sympathy from Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield when appearing on This Morning.

Natasha Hooper had some understandable shockers, with one previous date not knowing who Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn as well as another gentleman who thought women should be 'more domesticated'.

She was joined on the couch by Andrea Goul who has only ever encountered two types of men: geeks or lads. The 41-year-old, who has two degrees, told Holly and Phil: "They tend to be either quite geeky, into computer games, video games, gaming, World of Warcraft; which is not my king of thing at all.

"On the opposite side, they tend to be very laddish, drinking a lot. I can't really have a sensibly conversation with those kinds of guys, unfortunately."

Andrea says she feels like she has to downplay her achievements when she meets men, while Natasha suggested potential mates were intimated by her intelligence. People on social media didn't take too kindly to their words.

Holly wasn't having it, though, and said: "There must be a middle ground here - or is it a case of, dare I say, lowering your standards slightly?"

People shouldn't have to lower their standards if they plan on spending a huge chunk of their lives with another person. But to claim that there are no men out there that are smart enough...? Come on. Natasha says she used to use dating apps and bars to find potential partners, which are both fine locations.

However, in the case of apps, you can spend days, weeks or even months talking to someone to suss out whether they fit your personality.
