Inbetweeners' James Buckley has brutal response as he talks about show reunion

Inbetweeners' James Buckley has brutal response as he talks about show reunion

The Inbetweeners' James Buckley says that there's no chance of a reunion, and he won't even let his kids watch the show

James Buckley had a pretty brutal response to being asked whether he might ever consider returning to his role in The Inbetweeners.

Buckley - of course - starred as Jay Cartwright in the hit comedy, which ran between 2008 and 2010.

The show followed four hapless teenagers on their journey through school, and saw Buckley and his co-stars Simon Bird, Joe Thomas, and Blake Harrison chucked into a number of cringeworthy yet relatable positions as Jay, Will, Simon, and Neil.

There was even a film released afterwards, remember?

Anyway, if Buckley has any say in the matter - and he really does - that’s as far as the show will ever go, as he’s now said that ‘all the money in the world’ couldn’t make him return to the character.

It’s not because of the nature of the character, although Jay was probably the most ridiculous of the whole bunch, known for lying, exaggerating, and generally being ‘that guy’ that one of us all knew at school.

If you didn’t know a guy like that, you were that guy.

Talking to Made in Chelsea star Spencer Matthews on his podcast Big Fish, Buckley said: "You know, lot of people still ask if there's going to be some more Inbetweeners, and my answer is always the same.

"I always go look at me, look at a state of me, look how old and haggard I am, and I'm the youngest out of the boys."

As we’ve covered, he’s also recently said that there isn’t enough cash out there to make him return to the character, adding that he wouldn’t want to ‘spoil’ something that he really loved while he was doing it.

That doesn’t mean he won’t work with the lads on other projects though.

Buckley explained: "I'd love to do something different with the boys, but this was the one job in my life that ticked all the boxes. I loved doing it.

"I thought it was good. I'm proud of it.

“I got to do it with my friends.

“I had so much fun doing it and loads of other people loved us doing it as well."

Buckley has no interest in returning to the role.

It would be a bit strange, getting them all back together at a much older age, wouldn’t it?

Perhaps The Inbetweeners is just one of those shows that is ripe for a reboot for another generation at some point?

These days, Buckley has made more than a million quid on Cameo, and is concentrating on life with his family.

He’s got two boys with his wife Clair Meek, and he admitted that he’s not letting them watch The Inbetweeners.

Buckley said: "I'm supposed to be their dad.

"You know I'm supposed to be respected. The last thing I want them to do is watch The Inbetweeners, because the tiny last bit of respect that I do have from them would go completely out the window."
