Si King makes heartbreaking confession in first Hairy Bikers episode after best mate Dave Myers died

It's the first episode of the Hairy Bikers that'll air since the death of Dave Myers

The first episode of The Hairy Bikers Go West since the death of Dave Myers last week is on TV, and in it Si King had a heartbreaking moment where he had to go it alone without his friend.

On tonight's (5 March) episode, Dave and Si headed for north-west Wales and met some of the local food producers in the area.

One of the places they visited was a farm which practiced permaculture, a method of growing food by replicating the ecosystems which you'd find out in the wild.

The show will go on, though on tonight's episode Si King said it was 'odd' to be doing things without Dave.

However, Dave wasn't able to make it to this farm as he noted on the show that he had to 'take a little break' because he was undergoing treatment for his cancer.

According to the Metro, while down on the farm Si said it was 'odd' not to have his mate beside him, a moment which will no doubt feel all the more poignant now that Dave has sadly died at the age of 66.

"With Dave’s treatment ongoing, he needed to take a break today, so he was a big miss, and I didn’t like riding on my own particularly, but I’m gonna take him some produce back and he can have a nibble," Si said during the episode.

The many fans of The Hairy Bikers loved the genuine friendship between Si and Dave, and in one of his final interviews Dave revealed that on a day he'd been feeling particularly unwell Si had come round and made him mince and dumplings.

Dave had said: "There was one day when I was poorly and he came round to our house and made me mince and dumplings, but he does it properly.

"You know, when the bottom of the dumplings are just soft, the top of the dumplings are crusty, and I really… I remember that with mashed potato. That was lovely.

"There was a freezer full and that was great."

It was Si who announced the tragic news to everyone last week, informing Hairy Bikers fans that Dave had passed away on 28 February with his wife Lili, family and Si himself around him.

Si said that the love and support people gave Dave 'meant the world to him', and confirmed that the remaining episodes of The Hairy Bikers Go West would continue to be shown.

He said: "It’s a series that we will always remember, not that we won’t remember others.

“We are very privileged to do what we do and I think this one was particularly special in general because of Dave’s health and his sheer and utter determination and love for what he does.

“Especially to continue to do it while he was having treatment took remarkable courage and energy – and adds to why Dave and I will not forget it.”

The remaining episodes of The Hairy Bikers Go West will air on BBC Two at 7.00pm on Tuesday evenings.
