Viewers are obsessed with the BBC iPlayer crime series which 'keeps you gripped to the very end'

Crime drama fans looking for a gripping new series are being urged to check out a 'terrifying' and 'brilliant' series on BBC iPlayer.

We can all agree, as much as us Brits love a crime drama, no one quite does it like the Scandinavians.

Whether it be Denmark, Iceland, Sweden, or in this case, Norway, something about the combination of the snowy regions and harrowing murders just hits different for crime dramas.

The BBC in particular are well known for loving a ‘Nordic noir’ having just recently acquired two more in End of Summer and Jana - Marked for Life.

While you wait for those two though, we have the perfect new Nordic noir for you, which some are calling the best of the genre.

Check out the trailer for Wisting below.

Wisting is focused on Norwegian small town homicide detective William Wisting.

His investigation into a American serial killer hiding in Norway causes him to cross paths with his journalist daughter’s latest story, and we’re already hooked by that premise.

Throw in Carrie-Anne Moss playing an FBI agent on a secondment to Wisting’s team and the show’s incredible reviews and there’s little else to do but run straight to stick it on.

The show is Norway’s most expensive ever drama, costing nearly £10 million to make.

The BBC picked it up in 2019, shortly after the first season aired in Norway, and all three seasons can be found on BBC iPlayer.

One fan posted on X (formerly known as Twitter) to say: “Wisting is brilliant. Lots in Norwegian with subs but well worth sticking with it. Superb, genius plot keeps you gripped to the very end. Beautiful country too.”

Another said: “Listen up! You are really missing out if you’re not watching Wisting on iPlayer I’m obsessed!”

A crime fan also said: “Little bit obsessed with Wisting. Fabulous Scandi drama and thanks to a well placed FBI element, a mix of Norwegian and English, so I can look at my cup of tea whilst drinking it without missing anything.”

Season one of the show sits at 88 percent with audiences on Rotten Tomatoes.

One review said it was ‘like curling up with a good mystery novel’.

The show is itself based on a series of Norwegian crime novels, covering roughly two per series of the show.

A review in The Wall Street Journal gave the show a glowing review, saying: “The thriller aspect, never less than terrifying, dominates in Wisting.

“In this 10-part series, every episode lives. No small achievement.”
