DC fans were given an absolute treat tonight (22 August), as the movie franchise introduced our first (proper) look at Robert Pattinson's Batman.

It's been speculated for some time that the first trailer for Matt Reeves' The Batman could be coming out this August, and what better time to introduce it than at DC's FanDome event.

While Pattinson had been rumoured to be the new titular superhero for some time, it wasn't until May last year that Warner Bros officially confirmed he would be donning the cape and cowl.

With the new role, the star will be following in the footsteps of Michael Keaton, Val Kilmer, George Clooney, Christian Bale and Ben Affleck.

Pattinson had been keen on the idea for a while, having heard that the script for the film focused on a younger version of Bruce Wayne.

Co-writer Mattson Tomlin recently teased that the film will look into Wayne's soul, telling Den of Geek: "I think that really looking at Batman as somebody who has gone through this trauma, and then everything that he's doing is then a reaction to that, rather than shy away from that.

"I think this film leans into that in some very fun and surprising ways. I think that's all I can say without getting yelled at."

Now that the trailer is out, we're excited to see more on Pattinson's turn at bringing Batman to life in Reeves' movie, which is slated for release in October next year.

As well as the exciting trailer drop, fans were provided access to over eight hours of panels, performances and previews on the DC universe, all of which were streamed on the DC FanDome website.
