The Crown Season 5: Cast, Plot And Release Date

Everything you need to know about the new season of The Crown

Fans of The Crown will be delighted to know that 2 years after season 4 finished, the award-winning Netflix show is returning for another series. But who is in the cast, what events will it cover and when is it being released?

The Crown Season Five Cast:

Following the show’s tradition to see a complete cast turnover every two seasons, season five will also welcome a brand new lineup. This includes Imelda Staunton as Queen Elizabeth II, Jonathan Pryce as Prince Phillip, Lesley Manville as Prince Margaret and Elizabeth Debicki as Diana, Prince of Wales. There were reports suggesting Netflix were struggling to cast anyone to play the controversial role of Prince Andrew, but it has been confirmed recently that actor James Murray will be taking on the challenge. When asked about the potential controversies that come with the character, Murray replied stating “Well, if I’m being professional it’s not really my job to feel too much or judge the character, and remember we’re in the 90s, before all the things that we know now."

The Crown Season Five Plot:

The new season will be covering the John Major and Tony Blair Government years. We'd therefore expect to see the Queen's “annus horribilis” of 1992, which saw three of her children's marriages break down and a fire severely damage Windsor Castle, covered. Other events likely to be included are the death of Princess Diana, a year after her divorce with Prince Charles, and the Queen celebrating her Golden Wedding Anniversary with Prince Phillip in 1997.

The Crown Season Five Release Date:

Last September, Netflix revealed that season five of The Crown will be released in November 2022.

The Crown Season Five Trailer:

Although a ‘First Look’ type trailer is available to watch on YouTube, the official trailer is unlikely to be released until the month of the new season’s release.

Series 1-4 of The Crown are currently streaming on Netflix and the 40 episodes are a perfect recipe to fuel your excitement ahead of November.
