The trailer for a film about the history of Tetris starring Taron Egerton has just been released, with the release date confirmed in the process.

We’ve all heard of Tetris, with many of us wiling away hours of our youth sitting staring at the Gameboy screen watching different combinations of blocks descending and getting increasingly stressed as they fill up from the bottom.

However, this film isn’t really about that, it’s a much more interesting tale than that.
Egerton plays Dutch game designer Henk Rogers, who became embroiled in a high-stakes legal battle for the rights to the game, set against the backdrop of the Cold War.
The Rocketman star has been keen to point out that the film isn’t going to be like a normal video game movie.
Don’t expect anything like Sonic the Hedgehog or that dreadful Battleship movie, for example.

In an interview with GQ, he said: “It’s definitely more Social Network than Lego Movie.”
That’s good, then.
Giving some context, he added: “It’s about the rights to the game.

“It’s an insane true story.”
Filming started back in 2020, but then - well - you know what happened.
Still, they’ve managed to get it ready for 31 March 2023, so hopefully it will be worth the wait.
As well as Egerton, the film features turns from Toby Jones, Nikita Yefremov, Roger Allam, Anthony Boyle, and Togo Igawa, to name just a few.

The short trailer shows Rogers travelling to the Soviet Union in order to start up a collaborator with the creator of the game, Alexey Pajitnov - played by Yefremov.
The aim is to bring the addictive game to the masses, breaking down the barrier between the Soviet Union and the rest of the world just a little along the way.
In the trailer, Rogers says: “It's poetry.
"Art and math all working in magical synchronicity.

“It's the perfect game."
However, the officials of the communist government weren’t too keen on the idea getting out, leading to a tense legal battle.
It definitely doesn’t sound a lot like The Lego Movie, does it?
After this appearance, the idea seems to be that Egerton will once again return to his role as Gary ‘Eggsy’ Unwin in another movie for the Kingsman series.
Last year, he said: “My understanding is that we are to be shooting the third instalment in my saga I believe next year.
"But you know, don't listen to what I say because I don't really know. You know, they're grown-up decisions."
Tetris will be available on Apple TV+ from 31 March this year.
