Horror fans are comparing the ‘terrifying’ new Smile movie to another cult classic – fans of which will 'love' the new movie, according to social media users. Watch the trailer here:
The creepy new flick follows a doctor as she is suddenly haunted by someone – or something – continuously smiling at her, which forces her to confront her troubled past in order to deal with the mysteriousness around her.

A synopsis from Paramount says: “After witnessing a bizarre, traumatic incident involving a patient, Dr. Rose Cotter (Sosie Bacon) starts experiencing frightening occurrences that she can't explain.
“As an overwhelming terror begins taking over her life, Rose must confront her troubling past in order to survive and escape her horrifying new reality.”
The film, which was directed by Parker Finn and is based on his earlier short Laura Hasn't Slept, has already been compared to another favourite horror movie after it landed in cinemas last week.

One fan tweeted: “Omg the SMILE movie was sooooo good. Fans of IT FOLLOWS will love it. I give it a solid 88%.”
Someone else said: “SMILE (2022) is some pretty great great horror filmmaking. Like IT FOLLOWS, but for smiling people! Some great jump scares, creatively horrifying imagery, plus it actually feels like it has something to say. Sosie Bacon is a star.”
A third wrote: “Smile is just It Follows but without sex and more violent.”
A fourth added: “Smile gave It Follows vibes so I thought it was good!!!”
Released in 2015, It Follows is about a young woman (Maika Monroe) who is pursued by a supernatural entity – this time following a sexual encounter. To get rid of it, she has to have sex with someone else to essentially pass on the curse, leaving many locals in fear that they are being followed by something sinister. Sounds familiar, right?

Speaking to UNILAD, the cast of Smile discussed the toughest part of making the film – something that may come as a surprise, as, funnily enough, it had nothing to do with the scarier aspects of the movie.
Jessie T. Usher, who plays Trevor, recalled: "My most difficult scene was the scene where we [he and Rose] walk in the house and the cat runs by.”
As Usher laughed, Bacon dropped her head in her hand, explaining: "That was probably the most technically difficult scene.”

Usher cut in: "That's because it was just funny. The cat would not follow instructions."
While their co-star Kyle Gallner pointed out it was the ‘cutest cat’ they’d ever seen, Bacon continued: "And the trainer's trying to [instruct the cat], it's so intense and their cat's always not behaving properly.
"You can tell they're upset and insecure about it and it's like 'it's a f***ing cat'."
User added: "Sosie was trying to be so in the moment and she was feeling bad. In the scene, she's trying to stay in character and the whole time the trainers with the cats are standing right off camera going 'tss tss tss'."
