Sex Education season 4 confirmed to drop on Netflix this year

Sex Education season 4 confirmed to drop on Netflix this year

There's not much longer to wait for the new series of the awkward and saucy show

School is back in session! At least, it will be within the next few months, because Netflix has confirmed that the new season of Sex Education is set to arrive on the streaming service this year.

I hope you're ready to do some cringing!

The news comes from Netflix's Tudum website, which confirmed 2023 as the release date for Season 4 after the last season came to an end in 2021.

An official synopsis for the show explains the new episodes will take place following the closure of Moordale Secondary, as best friends Otis and Eric prepare to take on an entirely new environment: Cavendish Sixth Form College.

Following the success of Otis' sex education clinic at Moordale it's only natural that people should still want advice from him at the new school, but considering it's a pretty unusual hobby to discuss with new friends, naturally he's nervous about how the whole thing will go down.

Meanwhile, the synopsis explains, 'Eric is praying they won’t be losers again', and Maeve is off to the US.

Both Otis and Eric have to navigate a new school in season 4 of Sex Education.

Asa Butterfield, who plays Otis in the series, has previously told GQ there'll be a lot of new things to take in in the new series.

“We're in the new school, new locations, and things have changed up a bit. And we've got some new characters," he explained.

"The show's definitely sort of evolved somewhat, but it's still got the core team involved and it's been fun. I mean, we all know each other so well at this point, so it's a great time and it's a laugh."

When it comes to Otis' 'will they-won't they' relationship with Maeve, Emma Mackey admitted that we'll be seeing less of her character than we have in the past.

"It's a bit more sporadic because we have more characters," she said, “so there's… I'm not in it as consistently.”

While we're still set to see Maeve every now and again, there are other characters who fans will not be seeing in the new episodes - Ola, played by Patricia Allison, and Lily, played by Tanya Reynolds, being among them.

But for everyone we're bidding goodbye to, we're also saying hello to some new characters who will, no doubt, all have some intriguing and awkward tales of their own to share.

So get ready to sit down, settle in and be educated, because there's not long to go now!
