RuPaul's Drag Race Down Under Season 2: Release Date, Cast, Plot

RuPaul's Drag Race Down Under Season 2: Release Date, Cast, Plot

It's not long now before the second season of RuPaul's Drag Race Down Under is here.

RuPaul's Drag Race is a reality show where RuPaul—internationally famed drag queen—and a panel of judges search for the next 'Drag Superstar'.

In order to win, they have to embody charisma, uniqueness, nerve and talent.

The explosive popularity of the original show has prompted some to credit the franchise with 'making drag mainstream'.

So mainstream, in fact, that the original series has sparked several successful spinoff series worldwide, like Spain, Canada, the UK France, and, as of 2021, Australia and New Zealand.

In Australia's Drag Race spinoff—RuPaul's Drag Race Down Under—10 drag queens compete for the crown, a one-year supply of Revolution Beauty Cosmetics, and a cash prize of $30,000.

When is RuPaul's Drag Race Down Under Season 2 coming out?

In September 2021—four months after the first season’s premiere—the series was renewed for a second season.

The season reportedly began filming in New Zealand on January 18 this year and was scheduled to run until February 14.

Until now, details of the production have been tightly guarded.

On 21 June, RuPaul announced the second season will premiere on the small screen on 30 July.

Who is in the cast of RuPaul's Drag Race Down Under Season 2?

The only new faces in RuPaul's Drag Race Down Under will be the 10 contestants.

RuPaul will return as host, mentor, and head judge, as he has been since 2009.

Rejoining him will be Drag Race veteran Michelle Visage—a permanent judge in several of the franchises' spinoffs—and Australian comedian Rhys Nicholson.

Fans have closely been watching the activity of prominent queens in Australia and New Zealand for clues.

Many have disappeared from social media during the show's filming schedule, and some of the contestants currently rumoured to be starring in the second season include Aubrey Haive, Beverly Kills, Faux Fur, Hannah Conda, Kween Kong, Minnie Cooper, Molly Poppinz, Pomara Fifth, Spankie Jackzon and Yuri.

Where to watch RuPaul's Drag Race Down Under Season 2

The season will premier 30 July on WOW Presents Plus in the United States and on TVNZ OnDemand and Stan in New Zealand and Australia.

It will also be streaming on BBC Three and BBC iPlayer in the United Kingdom, and broadcast by Crave and its streaming service in Canada.
