Prince Harry goes against Prince William's request in new Netflix documentary

Prince Harry has seemingly gone against the request of his brother Prince William in a new Netflix documentary.

The first three episodes of 'unprecedented' docuseries Harry & Meghan have just been released on the streaming platform, and as you might expect, it is causing quite the stir.

One of many talking points is the inclusion of footage from Princess Diana's 1995 Panorama interview with Martin Bashir.

Midway through the first episode, clips are shown of Diana, Princess of Wales, speaking in the controversial interview - a programme that William said exacerbated his mother's 'fear, paranoia and isolation'.

A report by Lord Dyson - published in May 2021 - found the BBC covered up Bashir's deceit in obtaining the interview and 'fell short of high standards of integrity and transparency'.

In a scathing statement issued following the publication of the report, William said: "It is my firm view that this Panorama programme holds no legitimacy and should never be aired again."

In light of its inclusion in the documentary, The Mirror claimed a source close to William said he 'will be rightly furious'.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have also been branded an irrelevance to the UK by employment minister Guy Opperman, while Conservative MP Bob Seely has called for them to be stripped of their royal titles.

Harry - who moved to the US to live with his wife Meghan - has been criticised for attacking important institutions in Britain during the couple's tell-all docuseries.

In it, Harry accused the royals of having a 'huge level of unconscious bias', with Meghan claiming the media wanted to 'destroy' her.

Seely said there is a 'political issue' with Harry's comments, since he quit as a senior working royal more than two years ago, and the Isle of Wight MP plans to bring forward proposed legislation that could eventually strip the couple of their royal titles.

Harry and Meghan signed lucrative deals, thought to be worth more than £100 million, with Netflix and Spotify after quitting as senior working royals, with the docuseries the first major output for them on the streaming giant.

The synopsis for the series reads: "In an unprecedented and in-depth documentary series, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex share the other side of their high-profile love story.

"Across six episodes, the series explores the clandestine days of their early courtship and the challenges that led to them feeling forced to step back from their full-time roles in the institution.

"With commentary from friends and family, most of whom have never spoken publicly before about what they witnessed, and historians who discuss the state of the British Commonwealth today and the royal family's relationship with the press, the series does more than illuminate one couple's love story, it paints a picture of our world and how we treat each other.

"From the critically-acclaimed, two-time Academy Award-nominated and Emmy-winning director Liz Garbus, Harry & Meghan is a never-before-seen look at one of the most-discussed couples in history."

The second volume of three episodes will be released on Thursday (15 December).
