Psychological suspense horror starring Sandra Oh has finally landed on UK Netflix

The horror movie that American viewers have been raving about has finally arrived on UK Netflix

It may not be spooky season, but that hasn't stopped people raving about a new '10/10' suspenseful horror starring Sandra Oh.

A highly anticipated psychological horror flick has finally touched down on UK Netflix, with US fans having already been singing its praises since its release.

Directed by little-known Iris K Shim, the film was released in March 2022, meaning it has taken almost two years for it to arrive on UK streaming platforms.

A new horror film has landed on UK Netflix following raving reviews from American viewers.
Sony Pictures Entertainment

The movie is spearheaded by a well-known face in Hollywood, as Grey's Anatomy and Killing Eve actor Oh takes the reigns as the main character alongside Fivel Stewart and Dermot Mulroney.

The title of the film is Umma, which is Korean for mother, owing to main character Amanda's heritage and the nationality of her mother.

Watch the trailer below:

Umma is focused around Amanda's broken relationship with her mother, and how her quiet life gets turned upside down when the remains of the family's matriach arrive from Korea.

It isn't long before Amanda becomes tortured by the fear of turning into her own mother.

The psychological horror delves into the complexities of a mother-daughter relationship and generational trauma, and how it can leave long-term scars for both parties.

Set on a farm in rural America, the plot very much focuses on the characters and the deeper themes of the story, slightly slipping away from the standard horror genre.

One viewer rated it 10/10.

The movie has received some harsh ratings from critics - earning a measly 32 percent on Rotten Tomatoes' Tomatometer, and a mediocre 4.7/10 over on IMDb - but viewers have generally received the movie well, with several people buzzing for the movie's arrival on Netflix.

One American user posted when it arrived on US Netflix: "THIS IS NOT A DRILL UMMA IS ON NETFLIX!!!!!!!!!!!!!?!!"

Another user humorously said: "why isnt umma on my netflix" accompanied with a GIF of Kris Jenner holding a pistol.

A different user gave their own mini-review: "Y’all gotta watch ‘Umma’ on Netflix ASAP! 10/10 one of the best suspenseful movies that I’ve seen in a long while!"

"@IamSandraOh is so incredibly good in it, it’s mind-blowing. Stunning," a fourth said.

Meanwhile, others declared they 'loved it' and even demanded a sequel.

Lots of US viewers clearly rate the film, with many UK horror fans now able to sink their teeth into the creepy flick.
