Newly added 'sinister' Netflix series Rich Holiday, Poor Holiday is seriously dividing viewers

The series shot to Netflix's Top 10 shows after first airing on Channel 5

Netflix viewers have been left divided after the reality TV series Rich Holiday Poor Holiday arrived on the streaming service.

The TV show format of people with different experiences swapping lives is one that has been met with varying degrees of controversy over the years.

This family were involved in the show for their 'poor holiday'.

We have those like Wife Swap which generally prove endlessly entertaining, as well as much more controversial ideas, like Supersize vs. Super Skinny.

Rich Holiday Poor Holiday seems to fall somewhere in the middle, involving two families or friend groups from opposite ends of the income spectrum.

The title pretty much says it all - the two groups swap holidays, experiencing a taste of how the other half get away from the day-to-day and enjoy their time off work.

One episode sees a group spend time in a caravan while the others live it up in their villa abroad, while another group swap their safari for a trip to a B&B.

Some of the guests were not impressed with their accommodation.

The series originally aired on Channel 5, but it's since made its way to Netflix where it quickly caught users' attention and shot to Number 3 in the streamer's Top 10 shows in the UK.

There are a total of 10 episodes available to binge, and after watching the families enjoy - or complain about - their experiences, viewers took to Twitter to share their thoughts.

A lot of viewers have good things to say about the show, with some praising it for offering the opportunity for people to experience holidays way beyond their budget.

"Rich Holiday Poor Holiday is trips tbh. I love it for the people having more fancy holidays than they can afford," one fan wrote.

Some families got to experience luxury during their trips.

Another obsessed fan commented: "Watching Rich Holiday/Poor Holiday. They take someone from the poorest 10% and someone from the richest 10% and swap each other's holidays. Oh my goodness it's addictive."

Other viewers, however, aren't so sure.

One slammed the show as 'poverty porn', adding: "Rich Holiday Poor Holiday. It's poverty porn on Netflix.

"The premise of the show: Taking a family with an income in the top 10% and a family from the bottom 10% living in poverty, they swap holidays to see 'how the other half lives'. The scummiest, lowest level of s**t TV."

Another viewer described Rich Holiday Poor Holiday as 'one of the most sinister shows on TV'.

The series obviously isn't for everyone, but fans will no doubt be delighted to know they can treat themselves to some brand new episodes shortly, with season three kicking off on Channel 5 this Sunday (13 August).
