Netflix provokes reaction with extremely intimate photo of Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell

Netflix provokes reaction with extremely intimate photo of Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell

Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell are a bit too close for comfort in the image for some people...

There's nothing like sharing a snap of two film stars cupping each others ass cheeks to drum up interest for a new release on Netflix, is there?

The streaming giant have caused quite a stir online after sharing an extremely intimate photo of Anyone But You co-stars Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell on X on Sunday (28 April).

To celebrate the 2023 romcom joining US Netflix, the social media team clearly decided to take a cheeky risk while counting on viewers being downright dirty buggers.

It also seems that they wanted to play on the rumours surrounding an off-screen romance between Sweeney and Powell, as they opted to use an image of them fondling each other's derrières to promote the film online.

The actors themselves have already admitting to fuelling the fire surrounding their alleged extracurricular relationship, as they didn't want to put the 'ton of effortless chemistry' they have to waste.

That is despite the fact that the Euphoria star is engaged to Jonathan Davino and the Top Gun: Maverick alum was dating model Gigi Paris at the time - but if their other halves were cool with it, what's the harm?

Speaking of their decision to embrace the speculation, Powell told The New York Times: "That's people wanting what's on the screen off the screen, and sometimes you just have to lean into it a bit — and it worked wonderfully.

"Sydney is very smart."

Luckily for these two, they said 'the speculation played out exactly as they intended'.

So it's no wonder that Netflix have decided to get in on the action too.

In an X post shared a week after Anyone But You dropped, the streaming platform included an image from a very touchy-feely moment between Sweeney and Powell in the film.

It was comically captioned: "Sydney Sweeney [handshake emoji] Glen Powell."

As you can see, there's not a lot left to the imagination - although this moment in the film is actually anything but sexy.

They might have each other's hands down their pants, but they are actually both squabbling mid-hike while pretending to be a couple who are awkwardly taking in the 'romantic' view.

Sweeney's character Bea tells Powell, who portrays her love interest Ben, that his first attempt at grabbing her ass was like he is 'playing Bop It', so she shows him how it's done.

While her hands resting on his buttocks, she realises there is something else down there - a spider.

Powell admitted they were both apprehensive about shooting the scene, especially as he ends up bollock naked on top of a cliff.

The Twisters star previously joked: "You know you’re not going to leave that filming day looking cool, so you just have to embrace it. Taking your clothes off on the side of a cliff in a hurry is not safe either.

"Nobody talks about that safety issue on set, where I almost died falling off a cliff taking my pants off too fast. But it’s a really fun scene, so it’s all worth it."

But anyway, let's hope that risqué post was worth it - as Netflix have garnered some mixed reactions to the post.

One said: "Why are they standing on a cliff f***ering each other’s buttholes?

Another fumed: "What on earth are they tryna prove by such a picture!" as a third added: "Uh uhhhh. Putting your hand in raw sweaty hiking booty."

And a fourth sighed: "Insane picture to tweet from a multi billion dollar company."

Others weren't offended by the intimate snap though, and instead saw the funny side of it.

One cheered: "This is how I want the actors of my ships to act idc if you married or engaged - respectfully."

Another added: "While they may not be a real-life couple, it's fun to imagine them together."

And a third joked: "Anyone BUTT you."

I guess art really is subjective, eh?
