Old Netflix tweet about cancelling shows resurfaces and it has not aged well

Old Netflix tweet about cancelling shows resurfaces and it has not aged well

Netflix once tweeted that they don't want to cancel shows before they run their course, but obviously they do, and fans haven't forgotten

An old Netflix post has resurfaced again and it seems to have really rubbed fans of certain shows up the wrong way.

The tweet, which was actually a bit of an apology from a few years ago when Netflix cancelled a really popular show, seemed to say that they wouldn’t be letting shows that haven’t fully run their course fall by the wayside.

Obviously, that has to happen in the world of TV and showbusiness, because shows that aren’t pulling their weight have to be ditched so that more stuff can be made, but every show – well, almost every show – has people for whom it is the greatest show ever.

When those shows get cancelled, people aren’t happy.

That counts for double when they come across a tweet in which Netflix deliberately said that they wouldn’t be leaving stories at a loose end.

The tweet, from June 2017, read: “We don’t like leaving a story unfinished.”

That was a reference to what happened with the popular show Sense8, which was binned off, sparking a backlash from the fans who had held it dear to their hearts.

Here's the offending tweet.

Now, internet deep-divers have dredged up the tweet, which continued: “We learned a lot from Sense and we’re going to try not to do this in the future.”

Clearly, in the eyes of fans of some shows, the lesson has not been learned as well as they suggested.

In recent times, shows such as Fate: The Winx Saga, The Midnight Club, The Baby-Sitters Club, Blockbuster, Uncoupled, 1899, Resident Evil, and The Chair have been binned off before they had fully completed their respective stories.

There’s countless others, too.

Again, it’s fair to assume that if they were super popular and everyone was watching, they wouldn’t have gone.

That’s how these things work, after all.

Anyway, fans have been responding – for some reason today – to air their grievances.

One said: “We don't like leaving a story unfinished’, yet you got rid of Inside Job which had an extremely big cliffhanger.”

Another said: “Then why do you leave The OA unfinished?”

A third wrote: “Altered Carbon Season 3 when?”

Sense8 was the show that started all of this.

So, if you’ve got an axe to grind about a show that you thought was unfairly cancelled before time, now seems to be the time to speak up.

Yet another said: “Santa Clarita Diet, I Am Not Okay With This, Inside Job, Dead End Paranormal Park, Warrior Nun, Glow, Raising Dion, The Midnight Gospel, Friends from College, Partner Track, The Midnight Club, The Hollow; the list of stories y’all left unfinished could go on forever.”

Is that all of them now?

Of course it isn’t, and it won’t be the last time a show that someone really likes gets cancelled, either.

The trick – then – is to only watch shows that are really so popular that no-one could imagine cancelling them.

Even then, as Game of Thrones taught us, there’s no guarantee you’ll leave the story happy at the end.
