Margot Robbie admits she used to be a goth who loved heavy metal

In an interview promoting her new film Babylon, Margot Robbie said she had an emo phase in her teenage years.

Hollywood A-lister Margot Robbie has admitted she used to be a bit of a goth and loved heavy metal back in her youth.

The 32-year-old is currently doing the media rounds to promote her new film Babylon, which is set to release in UK cinemas on 20 January.

Babylon tells the story of the rise and fall of multiple characters during a turbulent time in early Hollywood, where unbridled decadence and depravity thrive.

Robbie plays Nellie LaRoy in the film, with Brad Pitt, Diego Calva, Jean Smart, Jovan Adepo and Li Jun Li also amongst the cast.

One of the media stops that Robbie has taken is The Graham Norton Show, where she talked about her emo past.

While she admitted that she wasn't 'a full goth', Robbie did say that she was 'very emo' in her teenage years.

She added: "I would listen to only heavy metal music, and I would dye my hair black and only cut it with a razor blade. So yeah, kinda goth."

Fellow guest Cate Blanchett asked: "Does anyone like heavy metal? Was that something you genuinely liked?"

To which Robbie replied: "I genuinely did, and still do genuinely like it.

"I remember going to this Slipknot concert when I was on Neighbours, I have never had more people come up to me than at a Slipknot concert."

Robbie then described her happiness at the Neighbours and Slipknot unlikely crossover, with host Norton describing it as 'quite the Venn diagram'.

Robbie added: "It was so unexpected - they were worried about all the characters and if so-and-so’s baby is OK.

"They were so invested in Neighbours and Slipknot."

Robbie previously spoke about her heavy metal interest while appearing on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon in 2020.

The actor showed off her impressive knowledge of the music genre during a 'Know It All' quiz.

The Aussie also spoke on her emo phase in an interview with W Magazine back in 2018.

When asked what the first music album she ever bought was, Robbie said: "It was Blink-182.

"Then I really delved into like heavy metal, and I had a couple of years where I had black hair and I only cut it with a razor blade, and I’d only wear, like, things with skulls on it or my band t-shirts.

"I went through the emo phase."
