Jameela Jamil refused to audition for You on Netflix over sex scenes

You follows serial killer Joe Goldberg (Penn Badgley) who was almost cast alongside Jameela Jamil.

Jameela Jamil refused to audition for You over the raunchy sex scenes.

The British actor, 37, has quite the résumé after having starred in the likes of The Good Place, How to Build a Girl and Marry Me.

However, fans of the Netflix series might be gutted that You wasn't added to Jamil's already star-studded back catalogue.

The series follows charming serial killer Joe Goldberg (Penn Badgley) who goes to extreme measures to insert himself into the lives of those he is transfixed by.

In season four, Joe moves to London to start fresh as a professor, but his past comes back to haunt him.

You also stars Tati Gabrielle, Charlotte Ritchie, Tilly Keeper, Amy-Leigh Hickman, Ed Speleers, Lukas Gage and many others.

But it seems that Jamil has provided a very specific reason behind not wanting to audition.

Speaking on Wednesday's (3 May) episode of the Podcrushed podcast with host Penn Badgley (coincidence, I think not) Jamil said: "I don't do sex scenes.

"In fact I was supposed to audition for the most recent season of your show and the character was supposed to be quite sexy and I pulled out of the audition because I'm so shy about anything sexy."

Badgley recently made a plea to Netflix to cut down the amount of sex scenes for the upcoming seasons - out of respect for his wife.

That perhaps made Jamil regret her decision ever so slightly.

She added: "And then you f***ing came out and was like 'yeah I'm not doing sex scenes anymore and I'm going to protect myself!'"

"F***ing hell, I didn't even know that was a boundary we could draw! That's fantastic.

"But then I was like - I should have gone and done the f***ing show!"

Badgley said: "It's not a sex show anymore!"

"It's not a shame but I feel like there's an awkwardness around it," Jamil concluded.

Netflix

Well, earlier this year Netflix announced that You season 5 will be 'Joe Goldberg’s Final Chapter'.

“We’re proud to see how You has captivated audiences around the world, becoming an instant sensation on Netflix with a resounding cultural impact that has grown season over season,” said Peter Friedlander, Vice President of Scripted Series, Netflix, US and Canada.

“We’re excited — and a bit terrified — to see how it all ends for Joe Goldberg, but one thing is for sure: You are in for an unforgettable ending.”

There is no release date, but season five is expected to drop some time next year.
