Next Goal Wins is scoring for a victory as the movie event of the year you can’t miss.
If you’re still missing the World Cup, Taika Waititi’s new flick will fill your football-loving cup to the brim.
The film is directed by the New Zealand-born filmmaker (Jojo Rabbit and Thor: Ragnarok) and follows the American Samoa soccer team, famous for their brutal 31-0 FIFA loss in 2001.
Next Goal Wins opens with the ‘worst team ever’ hiring down-on-his-luck coach Thomas Rongen (Michael Fassbender) to help them turn around their painful long-lasting losing streak ahead of the World Cup Qualifiers.

The blockbuster centred around the beautiful game has a stellar cast of Elizabeth Moss, Will Arnett, Oscar Kightly, David Fane, Beulah Koale, Rachel House and Rhys Darby.
Kaimana is also starring in this Polynesian-inspired underdog story, who plays Jaiyah Saelua, the central defender and the first openly transgender pro footballer.

Waititi, said in a video campaign for Fa’atasi Capsule that he loves nothing more than ‘telling stories that represent different cultures’.

He added: “It’s the true story of the International Football team but it’s about way more than just soccer.
“It’s about Fa’a Samoa: The Samoan Way.”
