It's hard to imagine that Robin Williams could ever be turned down for a part during the height of his career. Who wouldn't want his name on their movie poster?
Well, apparently he was very keen to play Hagrid in the movie adaptations of J.K. Rowling's phenomenon, Harry Potter.
We know that he can do a wide variety of accents and impressions. So why would anyone turn him down?

Funnily enough, the reason behind the knock back was because he was American. The Harry Potter casting department has a strict rule of British actors ONLY.
Casting director Janet Hirshenson told Huffington Post: "Robin [Williams] had called [director Chris Columbus] because he really wanted to be in the movie.

"But it was a British-only edict, and once he said no to Robin, he wasn't going to say yes to anybody else, that's for sure. It couldn't be."

Apparently, J.K. Rowling really wanted Robbie Coltrane to play Hagrid anyway, and no-one messes with her. She literally invented a universe.
